Duties
As a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER (SERGEANT), You Will:
  • Prepare and present work to be performed; articulate work information at roll calls, meetings, etc., Assign work to be executed by BEP Police Officers.
  • Serve as a Supervisor with the authority to arrest and or delegate arrest. Enforce Federal and DC laws. Conduct preliminary investigation of crimes.
  • Initiates, reviews and completes quality police reports. Proofread and edit direct reports, incident reports prior to submitting through the Chain of Command.
  • Manage daily manpower planning, scheduling assignment of work for direct reports and monitor and evaluate personnel performance daily.
  • Qualifies quarterly with service handgun, shotgun, and submachine gun. CPR Re-certify every two years.
RequirementsConditions of Employment
Physical Requirements:The Sergeant is required on a regular and recurring basis to perform considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing to multiple flights of stairs, long periods of standing, lifting heavy objects of more than 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restrictive areas during search or pursuit activities, or defending oneself or other against physical attack. Respond quickly to active scene in hot, cold, rainy weather conditions, etc.
The Sergeant is also required to work one of three established shifts. The incumbent must successfully complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Basic Police Training Program and the Bureau Basic Police Training Center. The Sergeant must also successfully acquire and maintain the minimum Bureau proficiency standard with Bureau issued weapons are required by the Office of Security's Policy Governing the Training and Weapons Qualifications Required for Continued Employment with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, dated July 16, 2000.
Requirements:The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for disqualification in the hiring process. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough. Therefore, it is imperative that applicants exercise candor and honesty when answering background questionnaires, especially as it relates to arrest, employment, education, finances, illegal drug use, and/or other criminal history. Falsification discovered in security documents or during the background investigation process may result in an immediate negative suitability determination or immediate revocation of your interim clearance (if applicable).
QualificationsYou must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 Years of Age.
AND
Specialized Experience: For the TR-9, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the TR-8/GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Performing as lead while performing law enforcement work in the preservation of the peace; AND
  • Leading investigation of crimes; AND
  • Experience completing Arrests or apprehensions of violators; AND
  • Directing law enforcement responses to emergency situations.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the TR-9, you must have been at the TR-8/GS-7level for 52 weeks.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
Complete or have previously completed the Mixed Basic/Uniformed Police Training Programcourse(s) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.

  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
