U.S. Space Command is Hiring an Information Technology Specialist Near Colorado, CO

Position: IT Specialist / VTC Support Action Officer (AO), NH-2210-III (GS-12/GS-13 equivalent)

Location: USSPACECOM/J631, United States Space Command, Colorado Springs, CO

Description of Position: Serves as an IT Specialist/VTC Support Action Officer (AO) in USSPACECOM’s Systems & Services Support Branch.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing, supporting, and coordinating troubleshooting efforts of USSPACECOM IT Systems for all Command GO/FOs, Directors, and Support Staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to users and their support staff. Prepares, coordinates, and implements policy and procedures for hardware and software applications system operation. Develops comprehensive instruction for operation of system components.
  • Analyzes complex operational and tactical processes and/or a variety of unusual problems, questions, or conditions relative to a wide range of IT services and support.
  • Keeps abreast on data products, processes, or programs that enhance functional area management and provide for increased organizational optimization of Information Technology (IT) processes.
  • Serves as a senior technical advisor to management and participates in special projects. Isolates and corrects complex problems which hinder the capability of the organization to fully utilize information management technology.
  • Maintains oversight of Command VTC Presentations across NIPR/SIPR/JWICS.

Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to manage the planning, coordination, administration, and optimization of computer systems and system performance.
  • Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate and oversee corrective or preventative action sufficient to ensure optimum performance of the system.
  • Knowledge of performance tuning tools and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of system sufficient to oversee, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency and reliability of servers.
  • Ability to apply and direct the application of methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems; to provide and direct support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers; and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
  • Previous experience working with GO/FO customers at a Combatant Command.

Qualification Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of experience at the next lower broadband/grade level (or equivalent) in performing a variety of IT Specialist/VTC Support Action Officer duties and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses and organizational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation). Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).
  • Thrive in fast moving environment with quick turn deadlines. Ability to resolve day-to-day issues as they pertain to the execution of the Combatant Command’s Plans and IT systems and networks.
  • Must have or be able to obtain an Intermediate level IT certification in accordance with DoDM 8140.03
  • Highly Qualified: Knowledge of the United States Space Command Component organization and responsibilities, and its relationships with other combatant commands.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
  • Position requires the ability to successfully pass a drug screen
  • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
  • May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
