As a Global Category Director at our Fort Worth, TX location, you will plan and lead the category across the worldwide Manufacturing Technology Organization (MTO) and office locations. The task is to provide enterprise wide category strategies that align with the vision, initiatives, and strategic plan of Alcon and its respective franchises. The Global Category Director will have overall responsibility and accountability for the category and P&L impact. The GCD could also be responsible for management of personnel, including but not limited to, hiring, objective management, development plans, and succession plans. The purpose is to ensure an outstanding support for all business operations, to realize year-on-year improvements in assurance of supply, service levels, quality, cost, compliance, and innovation in close collaboration with the customers and other supplier/contractor managing entities. In this role, a typical day will include: The position consists of two major types of accountabilities: Strategic level: Ensure a category strategy is in place and constantly adapted according to the needs of the MTO organization and wider business in all Alcon business units. Define and adapt a Global category strategy in alignment with executive partners in the business, across all business units. Seek input from and align with other supply side functions and/or local sourcing organizations. Align category strategy along the product lifecycle with the TechOps category strategies as applicable to the assigned category. Manage the relationship with key stakeholders in the business to maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction and to ensure the category strategy is aligned and understood. Analyze, identify, evaluate, negotiate, select, contract, and develop a supply base which meets the line functions’ need for timely and quality supply of goods and services for the assigned category. Collate the regional sourcing strategies from the Regional or Global category mangers into an overall Global Category Strategy. Ensure regional and subcategory strategies are aligned with the global strategy and applicable Alcon business objectives. The GCL is responsible for effective execution of the strategy. Create full spend transparency (spend baselines, KPIs and metrics) Manage key supplier relationships through appropriate programs (e.g. alliance management, supplier relationship management) to enable innovation continuous improvement and cost containment through mutual accountability and trust. Develop, align and implement innovative cost savings and productivity initiatives for the assigned category to support Procurements and business targets. Project level: Support MTO project teams in the identification, negotiation, evaluation, contracting and supplier relationship management of suppliers in a high-quality, timely and cost-effective manner. The Category Director will be responsible for implementing key projects and ensuring the site category personnel are well trained and complete work on time. Ensure support to the project leaders and cross-functional teams in the selection and management of suppliers and service providers on a project to project basis and link these decisions with the overall global category strategies. Lead complex negotiations and support the business with contracting (negotiation and implementation of agreements) within assigned category in compliance with Alcon legal, ethical, and procurement standards and protecting knowhow and IP. Serve as an escalation point for procurement related topics for the project teams and the suppliers. Participate in project prioritization and budgeting at the executive level, communicating and aligning R&D pipeline and planned projects to the global strategy.
