Overview of the role The candidate will lead 2 major groups within the Global Clinical R&D Center of Excellence (CoE) 1) Surgical Intraocular Device (IOD) portfolio: Directors and Senior Clinical project leads responsible for strategic planning, development, and execution of clinical trials for product registration worldwide and/or post market product support and competitive differentiation in full alignment with the overall business imperatives. IOD includes all products in the IOL portfolio, implantable retina devices, and implantable glaucoma devices. 2) Clinical Evaluation: Group Heads and Scientific Clinical evaluation specialists responsible for the management of clinical documentation throughout the lifecycle management process, specific for IOD products, including planning, execution, and reporting of clinical evaluations. Collectively, the number of associates that report into this position (directly and indirectly) would be up to 50. The associate will serve as the Clinical and Medical strategic partner for Franchise and Surgical IOD therapeutic platform leader. Be responsible for all aspects of Alcon initiated clinical trials (AITs) in both clinical R&D, and global medical affairs for all disease areas and all products in Alcon Surgical IOD therapeutic platform. Be a member of the Global Clinical R&D Leadership team, Surgical IOD R&D Leadership Team, participate in the Protocol Review Committee as the medical/clinical partner. Teams working in this group will serve as the primary point of contact for R&D pipeline project teams, medical affairs teams, support global medical training during product launch to customer facing medical affairs associates worldwide. Clinical Trial Design (Life Sciences & Education) work includes: Designing and providing oversight of clinical research programs Building relationships with key opinion leaders and applies their input to enhance study design and protocols Confirming clinical research program design meets scientific objectives and is aligned with commercial needs Serving as medical/scientific consultant to marketing or research project teams and government regulatory agencies Establishing the criterion essential for determining the safety, efficacy, and medical utilities Interpreting results of Phase I to Phase III investigations in preparation for new-drug or medical device application In some organizations, may serve as safety expert for individual clinical projects. May be responsible for post marketing studies.
