Under supervision of the Principal Investigators, the incumbent will serve as the project coordinator for a research study focusing on neurocognition and health disparities within the Department of Psychiatry. Responsibilities will include initiation, coordination and organization of new and ongoing studies, supporting protocol development and implementation, independent administration of neuropsychological tests, clinical rating scales, structured neuromedical interviews, questionnaires on psychiatric status and physical assessments and collection of vitals (e.g. temperature, blood pressure, etc.) of research participants; maintaining study database; recruitment, scheduling and assessment of participants in English and Spanish; support remote data collection in research participants using mobile technology; preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and other required reports; and participating in the preparation of written materials related to studies including drafting abstracts and progress reports and support grant applications. Incumbent will be required to travel to participants' homes and affiliated research and community centers in San Diego County (e.g., South Bay Latino Research Center) to conduct some of the assessments. The incumbent will also perform other duties including preparing research forms, maintaining research charts and study materials, coordinating with laboratories and the UCSD CTRI, supervising undergraduates, and order supplies as needed. General duties will also include entering data and regularly attend and contribute to research meetings. Assist with other project and miscellaneous duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Theoretical knowledge of Psychiatry, Psychology or related field, including theoretical knowledge of and experience with performance-based assessments.
  • Possession of valid CA driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation to participants' homes and community partners for assessments in a timely manner.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish). Must have proficiency in written and oral English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct assessment of research participants and to monitor participants when they are completing at-home phone-based assessments.
  • Theoretical knowledge and experience working with bilingual (English-Spanish) adults across the lifespan in psychiatry and/or psychology.
  • Must be able and willing to work with older adults from underserved groups, as well as an elderly research population (both English and Spanish speaking).
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing, writing and training of research study protocols.
  • Proven ability to administer and score neuropsychological tests accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as proven ability to be part of a team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with members of a research group and with research participants.
  • Strong organizational skills to file and maintain participant tracking, including all study assessments. Proven ability to organize and maintain assessment materials, both paper and electronic versions. Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize data.
  • Proven ability to effectively and accurately document research procedures. Proven ability to read, comprehend, and discuss research materials.
  • Demonstrated experience with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and SPSS.
  • Effective and diplomatic oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborations and professional relationships between research staff and community agencies serving older adults.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating the day-to-day operation of SALUD-Tech, a multilingual research project.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to develop, coordinate and implement recruitment strategies of participants for research study and screen database to evaluate their eligibility for study participation.
  • Proven ability to administer and score neuropsychological tests accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training and instruction to other new research staff, and supervise other research staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively to prioritize tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an appropriate field of science or equivalent in education and experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to drive to the patients' home to collect study data, and must be willing to travel to various locations in San Diego County to recruit research participants.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule, including early morning and evening hours, and occasional weekends to accommodate participant needs.
Pay Transparency ActAnnual Full Pay Range: $58,548 - $94,190 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $28.04 - $45.11
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
