This project will advance the development of the E3SM global climate model (GCM) using GPU supercomputing resources at Argonne. Using a high-resolution E3SM model, we will develop multi-mesh model configuration to simulate the effects of Pacific Ocean sea surface temperature variability, its coupled ocean-atmospheric dynamics, and its long-term changes. This work will produce a high-resolution data set for a region extending from the United States and across the Pacific Ocean with Exascale Computing resources. The data will be used to investigate the impact of extreme weather events along the western US over a 41-year period, extending into mid-century. Education and Experience Requirements • Must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited institution and have completed at least one semester of schooling by the start of the program. • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. • Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. • Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident at the time of application. • If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test.
