Job Summary: The ICU Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive, high-quality care to critically ill patients. This role involves monitoring, assessing, and intervening in complex patient situations while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
  • Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs and clinical status continuously.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Operate and manage complex medical equipment, such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitors.
  • Perform and assist with life-saving procedures, including intubation, CPR, and central line insertions.
  • Assessment and Planning:
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments to identify changes in condition and develop individualized care plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to formulate and revise patient care plans.
  • Document all patient interactions, treatments, and responses in electronic health records accurately and timely.
  • Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding patient status, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families, addressing concerns and explaining procedures and treatments.
  • Report and escalate critical changes in patient conditions to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to care decisions and strategy development.
  • Ensure seamless transitions of care by providing detailed handovers to other nursing staff during shift changes.
  • Emergency Response:
  • Respond rapidly to emergency situations, utilizing advanced critical care skills and protocols.
  • Participate in code blue situations and other emergency response activities.
  • Quality and Safety:
  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to prevent hospital-acquired infections and ensure a safe environment for patients.
  • Monitor and maintain patient safety, including accurate medication administration and equipment use.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay updated with best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Professional Development:
  • Maintain current knowledge of ICU procedures, technologies, and best practices through continuous education and professional development.
  • Obtain and renew necessary certifications, such as ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) acceptable with a commitment to pursue BSN.
  • Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • Experience: Previous experience in an ICU or similar critical care environment preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications required; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) may be required depending on the unit.
  • Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, proficiency in using advanced medical equipment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under high-pressure conditions.
