UCSF Benioff Childrens Health is Hiring a Supervisor, Sterile Central Processing Near Oakland, CA

Job Purpose Statement: Under the direction of the Central Processing Manager, the Supervisor oversees the activities of the Central Processing department to ensure that all sterilization and decontamination activities are being met as by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Supports the local infection control directives to assure compliance with hospital policy and procedures. Assist Central Processing Manager in ensuring that all staff provide the highest level of service to our customers internal and external. Identifies challenges and barriers in Central Processing in areas of staffing support, customer service needs, and operational stability on a daily basis, reporting concerns to the CPD Manager. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the surgical instruments, equipment, case carts, and crash cart management systems. # Essential Functions: Customer Service Utilizes innovative approaches to improve service delivery. Quality Management Participates in the preparation and implementation of the departmental Quality Management and Improvement plan to address all regulatory requirements and Infection Control policies. Review QI reports and implements strategies to ensure that improvements are implemented and occurring. Investigates accidental injury reports to identify potential unsafe working conditions and or practices and ensures implementation of corrective action.# Reviews all autoclave records for accuracy and policy compliance. Logs all statistical information on established monitoring tools and reports out to the CPD Manager. Reviews and updates all count sheets in accordance with Instrument Coordinator to support the Surgical Services staff in the development of instrument sets.# Monitors the department#s quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control programs. Oversees and ensures consistency in the sterilization procedures, policies, and products across the hospital. Identifies areas of improvement based on customers, and employee feedback, organizational goals and initiatives, technology advancements, and recommended bodies; AORN, AAM, OSHA, HSPA, and TJC. Instrument Management Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to maintain equipment and ensure supplies are available for surgical procedures. Coordinates the rental of all equipment with Biomed and ensures procurement of vendor instrumentation. Works with CPD staff in identifying instrument needs and to reconcile any instrument shortages. Maintains logs and files on all instruments and equipment electronically and physically. Conducts instrument repair and assures the integrity of instrument(s), surgical trays, and equipment. Schedules instrument repair and assures the proper maintenance of all instruments. Reviews and updates instrument tracking system. On occasion will conduct training of instrument tracking systems database. Management Collaborates with CPD Manager in the development of the annual capital budget and operating budget that reflects current needs, anticipated changes, and growth. Demonstrates awareness and fiscal responsibility in managing operational budget.# Monitors FTE overtime on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to reduce costly overtimes. Develops, implements and modifies action plans to correct all negative variances on a daily and weekly basis. Assist CPD Manager with implementation of corrective action plan. Self Development Self-identifies clinical skills needs and utilizes opportunities to learn or reinforce those identified. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participating in education to meet own professional development. Develops a personal goal directly related to the UCSF Benioff Children#s Hospitals. Completes annual TJC mandated hospital education requirements. Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision-making as necessary.# Recognizes limitations and assertively seeks guidance in areas of uncertainty. Other duties as assigned. People Leadership Responsibilities:# Leads/participates in the selection and hiring of new employees. Understands performance standards and assures that each employee is informed of expectations. Conduct timely formal performance appraisal of direct report employees.#Delegates responsibility and authority appropriately. Financial Responsibilities:# Contributes to the management of annual operating and capital budgets. Monitors and controls expenditure levels to assure compliance with approved budget. Assesses departmental productivity and appropriately revises workflow systems to enhance efficiency. Technical Knowledge In depth knowledge of instrumentation in Surgical Services is required. Basic proficiency with computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets, instrument tracking systems, patient tracking systems, and supply chain management systems. Knowledge of aseptic techniques Extensive knowledge of methods of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization Extensive knowledge of operation and troubleshooting of all equipment used in Sterile Processing. Understanding of the principles and commitment to all standards of the OSHA blood-borne pathogens standard. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated team-building aptitude. Minimum Education:# High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred. Minimum Experience:# 3 to 5 years of experience in Sterile Processing 1-2 years of progressively responsible lead or supervisory experience. Additional Minimum Requirements:#Must be a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician from HSPA or CBSPD. Physical Requirements: Sit: Up to 3 hours/day Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours Bend/Stoop: Up to 6 hours Reach: Up to 6 hours Rep Use of UE/Grasp: Up to 6 hrs Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instruction.
