The anatomic pathology prep assistant (APPA) assists and supports the pathologist in the daily functions of the histology and cytology laboratories. This position is required to handle tissues, blood and/or other body fluids. It requires the accurate labeling of specimens and filing of tissue slides, blocks and tissue samples. The APPA works with hazardous and biohazardous substances, displeasing odors and materials, and variations in room noise and temperature. It requires the use of sharp instruments, as well as hazardous chemicals such as xylene and formaldehyde. The position requires careful manipulation of sensitive machinery and lifting of supplies. Independent analytic thinking and judgment by the APPA are vital. The tasks performed by the APPA directly impact the pathologist and patient care.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $17.44 Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $20.30
