DescriptionPosition Summary
Staff Nurse II is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse II provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse II functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals. Staff Nurse II facilitates educational development of staff, leads unit-based quality improvement initiatives and acts as a professional and clinical role model and educational resource for staff. Staff Nurse II is actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Uses clinical expertise to collaborate with nursing staff and health care team to improve patient outcomes
  • Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community and the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrates in-depth clinical knowledge, skills and expertise.
  • Schedules appointments and transcribes imaging orders into EPIC.
  • Scheduling procedures and calling patients as directed.
  • Provide clinical care to patients and families
  • Performs ongoing assessment of assigned patients’ and their significant others’ learning needs and identifies changes in patients’ condition.
  • Assimilates information from multiple sources and implements appropriate action plan to provide safe, quality care.
  • Ensures the appropriate implementation of the patient’s plans of care and facilitates communication among multidisciplinary team members regarding patient status.
  • Implements appropriate actions to respond to needs of patients and patients’ significant others.
  • Monitors and documents the patient’s condition during and post Endoscopy procedures.
  • Assures cost effective approach to patient care in terms of equipment, supplies and other resources.
  • In all areas of practice follows established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and identifies quality issues.
  • Recognizes and responds to age appropriate needs and behaviors of all patients and utilizes knowledge in planning and interventions.
  • Advocate for patients and their significant others, coworkers, community and the nursing profession.
  • Consistently demonstrates professional accountability.
  • Holds others professionally accountable.
  • Promotes collaborative practice with coworkers, other disciplines and departments.
  • Consistently demonstrates courteous service to internal and external customers.

  • Assumes responsibility for meeting personal mandatory requirements: current Illinois license as a Registered
  • Professional Nurse, CPR Certification, TB compliance, mandatory educational in-services, and other programs,
  • Participates in CQI data collection.
  • Approaches complex interpersonal relationships in a manner which will avoid antagonism and/or unnecessary conflict to reach resolution.
  • Serves as a role model and encourages professional accountability in others.
  • Organizes unit education for staff and serves as a resource for unit.
  • Supports UI Health and Endoscopy Services Mission, Philosophy and goals.
  • Utilizes established communication channels to resolve work related problems.
  • Interviews prospective employees as requested.
  • Ensures that the environment is clean, attractive, safe and free from hazards for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Understands and demonstrates principles of UI Health Values.
  • Works cooperatively with all members of the health care team including patients, their families and significant others.
  • Collaborates with clinical instructors and Clinical Practice Specialists to identify, promote and provide positive.
  • Provides orientation to new employees in collaboration with the Endoscopy leadership team.
  • Ensures and supports research efforts conducted within the Hospital & Clinics.
  • Respond to phone inquiries, answer question if possible or refer caller to appropriate person/area.
  • Develops, coordinate and/or mentors staff in process development/improvement and ongoing clinical assessment.
  • Perform other related job duties as required.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • One year of RN experience.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
5 Years Nursing Experience Required2 years of GI nursing experience
BSN required
Active RN License required
Preferred QualificationsDays/flex
2 Years Of Experience With GI Procedures Scheduling Preferred.Experience with endodcopy procedures (Colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, Bronchoscopy, etc) preferred
Ability to work independently and as apart of the Endoscopy team.
Ability to interpret hospital and departmental policies and procedures and apply standards consistently.
Independently motivated self starter and highly organized.
Clinical knowledge and understanding of Endoscopy procedures.
Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and health care providers.
Basic computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the EHR with on the job training.
