The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago invitesapplications and nominations for a Chief for the Division of InfectiousDiseases. The successful candidate will lead the Division of Infectious Diseases’ clinical, scholarly,educational, and service missions while working closely with the College ofMedicine and the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics (UI Health). Weseek an outstanding candidate at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor(rank commensurate with qualifications) with a record of extramuralfunding, program of research, and evidence of collaboration, mentoring, andclinical service. The candidate must haveexcellent leadership skills to support and grow the division and advanceits commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Division Chief’s responsibilitiesare as follows:

  • Recruit, oversee and mentor a team of ID specialists with expertise in general ID, transplant ID, infection prevention, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, HIV, addiction medicine, telehealth, mobile health and global health.
  • Work with community members and stakeholders to strengthen Division activities. 
  • Serve as attending physician for resident- and fellow-supported inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Supervise advanced care practitioners, fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Create and implement a vision for interdisciplinary and translational research.
  • Enhance, build, and participate in Divisional programs, including our well-established Ryan White HIV clinics.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to nurture and grow a vibrant and engaged ID Fellowship Training Program.
  • Contribute to shaping the future of trainees in our 155 - person Internal Medicine residency program, and growing ID fellowship program.
  • Advance the learning environment for medical students.
  • Actively engage in national, federally funded cutting-edge clinical research to treat and prevent COVID-19, HIV and other infectious diseases.
  • Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines related to infectious diseases and infection control.
  • Manage the division's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and resource allocation for various programs and initiatives.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for the division, aligning with the broader goals of the Department of Medicine and university.
  • Lead and support efforts in securing grants and funding for research and program development.
  • Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes within the division.
  • Promote community outreach and programs related to infectious diseases and prevention strategies.
  • Foster faculty development through mentoring, training, and supporting professional growth opportunities.
  • Facilitate collaboration with other departments and disciplines to promote integrated and comprehensive patient care.
  • Encourage and implement innovative clinical practices and technologies to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of institutional policies related to infectious diseases.
  • Promote and support the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the division and the broader medical community.
  • Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines related to infectious diseases and infection control.
  • Manage the division's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and resource allocation for various programs and initiatives.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for the division, aligning with the broader goals of the Department of Medicine and university.
