Position Summary The Telecommunications Supervisor oversees Police Tele communicators that process calls regarding emergency and non-emergency situations. Monitors the incoming processing and dispatching of calls, ensuring appropriate response units are dispatched. Promotes a positive work environment and encourage positive attitudes. Assists in overseeing the smooth operation of the multi-unit Communications Center, by providing direction to police Tele communicators and arranging for additional staff to ensure staffing requirements are met. Supervises and coordinates the activities of Police Tele communicators to assure compliance with department goals, policies and procedures, as well as with specific individual instructions.
Ensures that the communication room is adequately staffed on a 24/7 basis. Ensures all pertinent operational information is passed along to incoming shift personnel.
Ensures that all Police Tele communicators are properly trained to respond to routine and emergency-related matters. This includes emergency alert / notification systems for the entire campus.
Monitors and evaluates the job performance of Police Tele communicators on a routine schedule via monitoring/evaluation software. Conducts corrective action and discipline when necessary.
Serves as a liaison between law enforcement supervision and police telecommunications personnel from UIC Police Department, as well as other agencies and jurisdictions.
Receives and interprets in-coming citizen complaints, inquiries, and reports of emergency and non-emergency situations; logs; coordinates, disseminates, and maintains records of messages; disseminates information regarding safety.
Performs duties of the next lower level of this series. This includes: operating telephones, radios and a multiple screen computer console linked to a computer-aided dispatch communications system.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. May attend meetings and events in the absence of the Communications Center Manager.
