SummaryJoin our team at IDOH Chemistry Laboratories as a junior level chemist specializing in sample preparation and analysis of a variety of substances including opioids, pharmaceuticals, metals, and pesticides. This role requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemical or physical science and at least 2 years of experience as an analytical chemist.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex chemical analyses on various matrices using advanced instruments in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Adhere to Quality Assurance guidelines and maintain technical proficiency through Proficiency Testing
  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Complete necessary paperwork, reports, and SOP updates
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area
  • Participate in training and cross-training activities
  • Assist supervisor with assigned tasks
Requirements
  • Proficiency in operating complex laboratory equipment such as LC/MS/MS, GC/MS/MS, and familiarity with Sciex equipment
  • Effective communication skills within and outside the laboratory
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices and chemistry principles
  • Understanding of laboratory safety protocols
  • Familiarity with relevant state and federal regulations
  • Ability to design analytical techniques and develop new methods
  • Assist in compiling reports based on collected data
Challenge Of WorkThe role involves conducting detailed analyses that require accuracy and problem-solving skills in assessing complex variables. The chemist may be required to testify in legal proceedings and errors could have significant consequences. The work impacts public health surveillance efforts related to opioids and other substances.
ResponsibilitiesThe chemist works independently as a subject matter expert with occasional need for external expertise. Their work significantly contributes to public health surveillance and control efforts related to substances.
Work RelationshipsCollaborate with supervisors, colleagues, and various agencies to address analytical issues and ensure compliance with federal requirements.
Physical EffortAbility to handle and prepare clinical specimens is necessary.
Working ConditionsThe role involves working in a laboratory with potential hazards, requiring adherence to safety protocols at all times.
