DescriptionThis position is dedicated to developing and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing maternal and fetal mortality rates in Indiana. You will oversee three key components: fatality review, data, and prevention, focusing on the implementation of maternal and fetal fatality prevention strategies across the state. Collaboration with state maternal mortality review teams and fetal infant mortality review teams is essential to further implement recommendations.
You will provide technical assistance, training, public speaking, and meeting facilitation, along with responsibilities such as contract development, budget monitoring, report writing, and the creation of prevention education materials. Your work will contribute to the vision, mission, and objectives of the IDOH/Commission/Office/Division by integrating public health and prevention activities to enhance the health of Hoosiers.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Difficulty of WorkThe position requires critical thinking and analytical abilities to enhance systems for prevention strategies. Flexibility and adaptability to policy changes are essential, along with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Personal Work RelationshipsYou will interact professionally with the Director, co-workers, department staff, and various stakeholders in both public and private sectors to develop and monitor effective prevention program activities.
Physical EffortThe position primarily involves desk work, but statewide travel is required. Extensive computer use and mobility in confined spaces are necessary, along with the ability to lift and transport educational materials.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in a HIPAA-covered office environment with moderate background noise. Significant in-state travel and direct community engagement are required.

- Connect fatalities reviewed among maternal and fetal mortality review coordinators to create recommendations and prevention strategies.
- Provide technical assistance to local community organizations and health departments.
- Develop evidence-based prevention initiatives based on state and local data.
- Create educational and awareness materials, including brochures and visual aids.
- Facilitate prevention meetings in local communities.
- Report local prevention initiatives to relevant review teams.
- Provide training on developing recommendations and translating data into action.
- Present at state and national conferences.
- Develop partnerships and provide prevention education resources to local partners.
- Maintain contacts and maps for prevention coalitions statewide.
- Research effective methods to prevent injuries and fatalities among maternal and fetal populations.
- Knowledge of Indiana’s public health system and fatality review processes.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and engage communities.
- Experience in training large groups and developing educational materials.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Publisher, Access).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently while coordinating with teams.
