Job Summary

The University Inclusive Learning (UIL) Program Coordinator is a statewide initiative, promoting partnerships between institutes of higher education and local education agencies to offer students with intellectual disabilities the opportunity for college-based transition services.

The UIL Program Coordinator will work closely with secondary school district partners and the state MAICEI coordinator to coordinate all program activities and be the primary coordinator for the DRIVE program for students who are 22 .

This position will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) and technical assistance staff to meet all program goals.

This is a grant funded position. Appointment and continuation are dependent on renewal of the grant(s), and access to funding.

Essential Functions

Coordinate UMass MAICEI & DRIVE program activities, including orientation, open houses, trainings, and professional development workshops.

Responsible for the outreach to schools, collaboration with special education and transition staff, students, and families.

  • Serve as the liaison to participating school districts. Attends district Team meetings as requested. Facilitates ongoing communication and partnership meetings with school and community members to establish and communicate program goals.
  • Facilitate bi-monthly partnership meetings and monthly email updates to partners; act as the key driver in the success of the University and School Staff partnership to accomplish program goals and project work.
  • Communicate and collaborate with identified UMass faculty ensuring faculty have the necessary supports to accommodate the diverse needs of the students supported by UMass MAICEI & DRIVE students.
  • Collaborate with a variety of University departments to facilitate students' full inclusion into campus life, including, but not limited to :
  • Registration staff to ensure seamless non-degree student application process for incoming program students.
  • Registrar and Provost office to enroll program students in desired courses.
  • Assistive Technology Center and Disability Services colleagues to ensure program students have access to services provided.
  • Review documentation of disability and determine learning strengths and areas of development for individual students. Help students to identify and advocate for appropriate and individualized classroom accommodations with disability services staff.
  • Provide academic advising to students enrolled in the UMass MAICEI & DRIVE programs through person-centered planning. Assist students in identifying courses that align with personal interests and career goals.
  • Assists students to process accommodation letters and advise students on protocols for meeting with faculty to discuss learning needs.
  • Provide supervision to the Assistant UIL Program Coordinator and Education and Job Coaches; arrange training of educational coaches and peer mentors working with students;

seek out opportunities for natural supports on campus for those they supervise.

  • Co-facilitate and update Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) for enrolled students with Education Coaches.
  • Perform program administrative tasks, including processing applications, organizing student schedules, registering students for class, and maintaining student files.
  • As Principal Investigator, complete annual grant applications through the university processes and research, develop, and implement private-pay agreements, working with the Bursars office.
  • Facilitate ongoing program evaluation.
  • Coordinate and facilitate educational and disability awareness programming and support for UMass MAICEI & DRIVE partners, students, faculty, and staff through trainings and workshops regarding best practices for inclusion for UMass UIL partners.

Other Functions

  • Perform related duties as assigned or required. Understand responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrate capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success.
  • Understand responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and university policy.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three (3) years' relevant experience in program coordination or project management.
  • Supervision experience.
  • Familiarity of development services and support for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Experience working in education, student affairs, human services, special education, disability studies, rehabilitation, social work, or counseling.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Knowledge of state and federal transition services.
  • Experience with communication strategies and technologies, including distance education and training.
  • Knowledge of higher education including accommodations and universal design.
  • Experience with school- college partnerships and collaborations.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to travel for job-related purposes.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8 : 30am-5 : 00pm.
  • May be required to work some nights and weekends.
