UnaSource Surgery Center of Troy is hiring an afternoon - Part Time Patient Communication Coordinator to join our growing Team.

The Patient Communication Coordinator works in conjunction with providers and clinical staff to take care of patients’ administrative needs. This position is vital to giving the patient the Patient’s First service and treatment with every patient encounter. Primary responsibilities include checking in patients for appointments, collecting patient payments, answering telephones, taking accurate messages, and checking insurance eligibility. This position utilizes our electronic medical record system to verify and update patient demographic balancing of payments collected. PSRs are friendly and provide excellent customer service, assuring that patients are informed and well cared for while waiting for their appointment.

PREREQUISITE EXPERIENCE: One year of experience in a healthcare environment or a minimum of two years’ experience in a customer service focused role. Experience with electronic medical records and insurance verification preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Graduate or GED equivalent.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Strong listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, have attention to detail, strong organization skills, and a team player.
  • Written communication skills necessary for appropriate and accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use good judgment for maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Intranet and Internet usage, Excel/Word software, E-mail Usage and Web-based applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.

  • Report incidents and adverse incidents per Center policy.
  • Support the patient and family experience by providing helpful and courteous service at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work space and patient waiting areas.
  • Answer, and direct incoming telephone calls appropriately.
  • Check in patients upon arrival to the Center on the day of surgery.
  • Use AIDET to insure a positive first impression when greeting patients and visitors as they arrive.
  • Verify and update demographics, insurance coverage, plan benefits coverage, signed insurance assignments, release of information signature, pre-certification information and consents.
  • Prepares charts, labels, and identification bands for upcoming surgeries.
  • Collect payments for balance due as well as co-pays and deductibles.
  • Keep patients informed of delays and explain alternatives when possible.
  • Maintain patient visit information.
  • Coordinate referrals, precertification and prior authorizations per office protocol.
  • Assist patient with billing questions as capable, and refer complex problems to the billing office.
  • Balance and close the cash drawer following internal audit protocols.
  • Manage items in any assigned work queue.
  • Sort, distribute and scan all mail and faxes as appropriate including but not limited to lab results and outside records on a daily basis following HIPAA privacy practices.
  • Display the behavior, attitude and action of a team player.
