Unbound Now is Hiring a Lead Youth Care Coach Near Waco, TX

In 2022, Unbound Now opened The Reagan, a faith-based specialized home for girls ages 12-17 who have experienced sexual exploitation. Our Youth Care Coaches are responsible for the daily care and supervision of youth placed at The Reagan. Youth Care Coaches build healthy relationships with the youth of The Reagan and act as mentors to assist in creating a trauma-informed, healing environment.

Status: Non-exempt

Anticipated hours: 40 hours/week; Evenings, Weekends, and Holidays required

Compensation: Hourly wages 

Benefits: Option of health insurance for employee and family; retirement plan with (3% salary match after 90 days with 1-year vesting period); life insurance for employee; option of employee-paid dental and vision insurance; PTO per time off policy in employee handbook

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate competency, prudent judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities
  • Oversee youth’s completion of chores to maintain the home’s cleanliness and sanitation, including laundry, kitchen, bathrooms, orderliness of the common areas and bedrooms, taking out of trash, etc.
  • Recognize red flag behavior with youth and respond according to policy, and report appropriately
  • Complete laundry for communal linen items such as sheets and towels
  • Maintain Daily Progress notes for each assigned youth
  • Supervise and provide support to youth while attending University of Texas Charter School at Methodist Children’s Home
  • Provide transportation for the youth as needed
  • Administer and document all administration of prescription and non-prescription medication as approved/required for each youth
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks for youth placed at The Reagan, in accordance with Local Health Codes and Youth Allergies and food restrictions
  • Teach youth life skills through the use of Trauma-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and other trauma-informed approaches to care
  • Perform Residential responsibilities related to the care of youth in The Reagan, including appropriate clothing and hygiene; participation in school/homework, spiritual development, and recreational and age-appropriate skill development activities
  • Develop appropriate, supportive, and professional relationships with each assigned youth
  • Serve as a positive role model to youth
  • Apply approved behavior modification techniques to de-escalate inappropriate behaviors
  • Facilitate and monitor youth phone calls to persons on youth’s approved contact list 
  • Comply with Unbound Now policies and code of conduct
  • Participate in team meetings, staff training, and other collaborative efforts, as needed
  • Participate in supervision and development meetings with House Director
  • Available on weekends and holidays as needed

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Higher education preferred. 
  • A minimum of 60 accredited credit hours toward higher education degree in social work, sociology, psychology or a closely related human or social services field or equivalent experience in child care/social services

Experience

  • Experience in survivor-centered, trauma-informed services required
  • Prior experience working with youth preferred

Desired Outcomes:

  • Progress notes are completed by the time staff clocks out of shift 
  • Needs of the youth/house are communicated effectively during shift change 
  • Assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner 
  • Staff interactions with youth are trauma-informed
  • De-escalation techniques used effectively the majority of the time 
  • The Reagan is a safe space for youth to be vulnerable because staff interact with all youth in a way that promotes unity within the home 
  • TBRI skills are being utilized effectively
  • Healthy relationships with the youth exhibited

Reports to: The Reagan House Director

Works with: Other Reagan House staff

Supervises: None

Working conditions and physical requirements: Work performed in residential home environment. Demands will regularly require lifting 15-20 pounds. Demands require close visual attention and prolonged mental concentration. Work duties may on rare occasion be performed in an environment requiring exposure to weather extremes, fumes, odors, bodily fluids, and noise.
