UNC Finance and Operations is Hiring a GIS Manager Near Chapel Hill, NC

The Energy Services Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager is responsible for implementing and managing the GIS for Energy Services and recommending changes to the system to improve data quality, accommodate growth, and maintain reliability. The GIS manager supports a core of Energy Services GIS editors and users in technical activities and daily system maintenance for UNC utility spatial data sets. They provide technical leadership and hands on technical guidance to Energy Service GIS Users in geodatabase design, implementation, testing, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), and needed troubleshooting. They work with various utility stakeholders to gather and understand requirements for new spatial data related initiatives. They support and assist GIS users in data acquisition, maintenance, and sharing.
The GIS Manager provides GIS consulting services, directs all GIS based application systems development, reports, server/system architecture, and GIS system maintenance for UNC's utility infrastructure. They also do hand-on data collection, map creation, data editing, and QA/QC of utility spatial data. The GIS Manager will respond to GIS mapping requests as needed.
While the GIS manager works closely with internal and external partners to understand customer needs, they will work independently on a day-to-day basis. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with proven experience working independently and in highly collaborative environments. They will also demonstrate a willingness to learn and bring new and innovative technologies in enterprise GIS for editors, users, and decision makers.
