UNC Health Appalachian is Hiring an Accounts Payable (AP) Manager - Internal Only Near Boone, NC

About the Role
The Accounts Payable (AP) Manager at UNC Health Appalachian is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounts payable functions to ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies. The AP Manager ensures timely vendor payments, maintains accurate records and control reports, and supervises the Accounts Payable staff. This role involves training organizational leaders on system usage, evaluating accounting reports, and assisting in month-end and year-end closing processes. Additionally, the AP Manager monitors inventory counts and adjustments and contributes to the budgeting process. Key Responsibilities include:
  • Accounts Payable Management:
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments.
    • Maintain accurate records and prepare control reports to monitor accounts payable activities.
    • Communicate outstanding invoices requiring approval to relevant departments.
  • Supervision and Training:
    • Train and supervise the Accounts Payable staff to ensure efficient and effective performance.
    • Provide system training to organizational leaders as needed.
    • Oversee and indirectly supervise Cash Accountant and Staff Accountants.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Review and evaluate accounting reports to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvements or cost savings.
    • Prepare month-end and year-end account reconciliations.
    • Assist in month-end close activities, including analysis and closing procedures.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Monitor and communicate inventory counts and adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Budgeting Assistance:
    • Assist in the budget preparation process by providing necessary financial data and analysis.
  • Policy Compliance and Improvement:
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Gross annual hiring compensation ranges from $63,440.00-$91,988.00. This position is eligible for benefits after a 60-day waiting period, with the potential to work in a hybrid capacity, with the expectation to report to Boone, NC when in-person.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts payable or a similar accounting role.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant certification.
  • Experience in healthcare or a similar industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Manual dexterity and mobility
  • Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking
  • Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
  • Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
Working Conditions
  • Typical office environment.
  • May require occasional travel for training and meetings.
