Purpose of Position

This position is responsible for managing and advancing the Self-Paced Enroll Anytime (SPEA) program. The Program offers undergraduate and graduate credit courses online in a 9-month timeframe, available for registration anytime, in which students enroll for academic credit and work at their own pace. Some of the courses meet essential studies requirements, others are considered electives, and many fulfill course and/or program pre-requisites. This position will be responsible for providing the management, coordination, delivery, and follow-up for the self-paced credit courses, including working with faculty on developing new courses, monitoring and improving student progress and communication, and quality assurance of new and existing courses.

Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinate the management and delivery of the Self-Paced Enroll Anytime Program.

  • Through networking, conference attendance, and committee membership be aware of changes occurring within the higher education field to look for opportunities to grow the program or threats that could derail the program. Determine the best mix of enroll anytime, self-paced course offerings with an emphasis on essential studies, high enrolling, and pre-req-fulfilling undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Monitor course offerings, and determine when current courses need to be revised/rewritten and new courses developed.
  • In cooperation with the Director, Chairs, and Deans, advocate for new course development.
  • Survey and compile data to determine the viability of new courses and the need to update existing courses. Work directly with Assistant Director, Director, students, and campus faculty to determine new course development.
  • Meet with the UND instructor and UND Instructional Designers from TTaDA to discuss developing the most effective and efficient online courses.
  • Ensure that new courses are developed according to the highest accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and follow universal design for learning best practices and are in compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Provide annual reporting as needed to Department Chairs and College Dean to review annual enrollments, instructors of record, grading payments, etc.
  • Work with the Data Manager, Student Records Specialists (SRS), and UND Marketing and Creative Services, to ensure all course offerings are listed appropriately on the website and that all instructors of record have received the information they need for each student.
  • Review and interpret state and national regulations in regards to ‘correspondence study’ or self-paced enroll anytime courses (e.g. financial aid, Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission, etc.).
  • Maintain a cohesive working relationship with UND’s offices such as the Registrar’s Office, Student Finance, Academic Departments, academic and professional advisors, etc.
  • Assist with annual budget development, annual goal development, and monthly budget and goal review process. 

Review and monitor the Self-Paced Enroll Anytime program to look for ways to improve the program and improve the student experience.

  • Implement and monitor communication plan for enhanced course completion by enrolled students.
  • Develop and implement tutorials and orientation modules to assist students in starting and navigating their self-paced enroll anytime course.
  • Monitor drop, withdrawal, and failure rates for each self-paced enroll anytime course and determine if changes need to be made. If so, work with the instructor of record for modifications. Assess strategies to improve course syllabi.
  • Ensure that existing courses meet the highest accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and follow universal design for Learning best practices and are in compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Work with OEL SRS, Data Manager, Finance, and Marketing teams to establish the best procedures and processes for the delivery of the courses to our students.
  • Monitor evaluations to look for improvements that could be made to courses. Forward course evaluations to the instructor of record and follow UND policy for providing evaluation information to the Department Chair.

Participate as an active team member within the Office of Extended Learning (OEL) and the University as a whole, collaborating on projects for non-credit OEL courses and certificates, as well as UND online semester-based courses and degree programs.

  • Work with the TTaDA Instructional Designers and Academic Technologists to learn new software and technologies that are implemented for the university. Determine applicability for SPEA courses, and share information and potential uses as appropriate with the coordinators of the non-credit programs.
  • Assist the Director with services and research in support of online programs, as part of the UND Strategic Plan and other strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in committees, task forces, and attend conferences to enhance professional development as appropriate and in balance with work responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Higher Education, eLearning, Instructional Design, Education, Communication, Business, Project Management, or related field)
  • Two years of experience in education
  • Two years of administrative, program leadership, or project management experience
  • Experience in program and/or curriculum development
  • Experience working with the public and providing high quality customer service
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, email, and customer management systems
  • Experience using Blackboard or similar Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
