Union Gospel Mission of Salem is Hiring a Human Resources Coordinator Near Salem, OR

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Coordinator will ensure smooth, sound, and legally accurate processes for onboarding, managing personnel issues, benefits implementation, and managing the overall work environment. A strong leader that is able to foster a culture of open communication and positive, supportive interactions with a Christ-centered approach.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Enhances the organization’s human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices.
  2. Administers payroll system and monthly payroll processing.
  3. Supports organization staff by establishing a recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes.
  4. Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.
  5. Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; and counseling employees and supervisors.
  6. Implements employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommending benefit programs to management; directing the processing of benefit claims; obtaining and evaluating benefit contract bids; awarding benefit contracts; and designing and conducting educational programs on benefit programs.
  7. Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records, and representing the organization at hearings.
  8. Enforces management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
  9. Retains historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system and keeping past and current records.
  10. Advances human resource staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  11. Participate in community outreach, fellowship, and continued Christian growth.
  12. Maintain a positive, encouraging Christian work atmosphere by demonstrating and training staff in appropriate Customer Service C.A.R.E. standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Decisive and able to respond calmly in conflict situations.
  3. Knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
  4. Good organizational skills with ability to work independently in a multi-task environment.
  5. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and MS Outlook applications. 
  6. Valid OR State Driver’s License and able to use own vehicle for occasional business purposes.
  7. Must agree with Union Gospel Mission of Salem’s Statement of Faith and Standards of Conduct.

Education and Experience:

  1. Minimum BA (4 year) college degree. Post graduate degree preferred. (Business related, non-profit management preferred.) 
  2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar position, previous senior management or successful completion of 12 month MBA internship.
