The mission of the Union League Boys Girls Clubs (“ULBGC”) is to enable all young people, especially those who
need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. The ULBGC currently serves
15,000 youth annually with a budget of $9 million.
Summary of Position:
A key member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President of Finance (“VP Finance”) serves as the
financial officer to ULBGC providing strategic direction, oversight and monitoring of all accounting functions
and ensuring sound fiscal management and prudent stewardship of resources. Sets goals and direction in
budget control, forecasting and analysis. Oversees agency assets including facilities and technology and
investments/endowment. Additionally, the VP of Finance plays a pivotal, hands-on role in maintaining
internal financial controls and oversight of Human Resource records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
FINANCE
- Assume all financial functions, including creating, implementing, and monitoring systems, policies and procedures for internal financial control.
- Oversee cash, investment, and asset management.
- Lead cash flow planning and financial strategy formulation. Foster and maintain strong banking relationships.
- Develop and utilize forward-looking models and activity-based financial analysis to provide direction to ULBGC’s operations and business plans.
PLANNING & POLICY
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends in order to assist the CEO and the Board in their oversight of agency.
- Develop, assess and monitor strategic financial models to assist management and Board decision-making.
- Offer technical and financial guidance, counsel, and support to Vice Presidents, Directors, Club Directors, and other senior managers. Spearhead strategic planning and grant evaluation, including the assessment and projection of new opportunities or external factors impacting the organization.
ACCOUNTING & ADMINISTRATION
- Review and approve preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for ULBGC Trustees.
- Manage accounting staff members; hire and retain support staff as needed in the future.
- Coordinate the development and initiatives of the Finance Team.
- Manage relationships with investment managers and consultants in accordance with Investment Committee guidelines. Execute Finance, Investment, and 401K Committee decisions.
- Participate in and provide support to the Finance, Investment, Audit, and 401K Committee. Ensure accurate minutes are prepared and implement approved resolutions. Attend Board of Director meetings, and Executive Committee as needed.
- Ensure effective, timely and accurate audit preparation and maintain close collaboration with audit firm.
- Oversee the capital budget and major renovations budget.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of bank account reconciliations. Cultivate productive relationships with operational staff and create and sustain an environment at Union League Boys & Girls Clubs that support these relationships.
- Ensure 100% of grants are collected and vouchered on a timely basis.
- Maintain up-to-date employee records, including annual background checks stored in payroll records.
- Oversee the employee 401K plan and coordinate activities with the plan administrator. Maintain a comprehensive insurance program to safeguard ULBGC and its assets. Ensure that ULBGC interests are protected in all contractual agreements.
- Coordinates with general counsel on all legal matters.
- Coordinate professional services and procurement to ensure competitive relationships with all service providers. Develop and implement purchasing/contractual policies and procedures for agency.
- Oversee the business management of ULBGC.
- Liaise with the Union League Club Finance Department.

- Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the Finance team.

- Conduct annual plans and performance reviews.
OTHER
- Serve as the representative of ULBGC at Boys and Girls Clubs of America, industry panels, and professional associations.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
The VP of Finance is expected to be a seasoned and accomplished leader with a minimum of 10-12 years of
extensive finance experience. Ideally, this experience should begin with a background in public accounting,
followed by a track record of gathering, analyzing, and providing actionable recommendations to senior
leadership. The candidate should also possess experience managing finances (accounting, budgeting, control,
and reporting) for a complex nonprofit organization with diverse funding sources, including government
grants (federal, state, and local), foundations, corporations, and individual donors. Moreover, the candidate
should demonstrate adaptability and the capacity to excel in a dynamic, growing organization.
The ideal VP Finance candidate should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Accounting or Finance).
- CPA or equivalent.
- At least five years’ experience as VP of Finance or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $3 million.
- Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.
- Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
- Experience working with staff to manage finance and accounting software packages.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Possess a roll up your sleeves and hit the ground running attitude.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, coupled with excellent organization skills.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Salesforce Donor Management System is a plus.
