Description

The primary objective of tie-down clerks is to provide assistance in loading and unloading containers and trailers from railroad flatcars.

They are responsible for securing and unfastening rail containers and trailers, supporting ramp contractors, spotting inbound trains, transporting crews within ramp areas, and operating cone buggy vehicles.

Opportunities for advancement and training : Tie-down clerks who fulfill the typing requirements have the option to apply for other clerical positions (office work) that become available after one year of service.

Accountabilities

Demonstrate proficiency in reading and understanding regulations and instructions in English, and exhibit strong oral communication skills.

Successfully complete a functional capacity examination to assess physical capabilities.Engage in physically demanding work consistently, and acquire the necessary skills to operate a variety of hand tools.

Adhere to all safety, operational, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, ensuring compliance at all times.

Cultivate and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers, while effectively managing conflicts that may arise.

Physical Requirements

Candidates are required to successfully pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT) before being considered for employment. This is separate from the medical exam.
