JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Operations is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations through the collaboration with leadership from field production, operational support, and finance, to achieve the organizations business objectives and strategic goals.

Manages and leads the day-to-day operations to ensure processes and controls are in place to maximize profitability of the organization while supporting a culture of accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties may be assigned.
Interpersonal Responsibilities
  • Maintains strong relationships with customers, employees, AHHS Leadership team, and management team.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor, sounding board, and confidant to the General Manger. Advises on a range of matters involving location and regional strategy, operations and staff.
  • Assists with succession planning and continuously evaluates the talent base and overall bench strength of the organization. Assures team continuity through identification of high potential employees, and gaps in key areas, along with the development of plans to address future staffing needs.
  • Establishes staff accountabilities, clear expectations for performance outcomes and key performance indicators and behaviors. Provides feedback on results and oversees the performance management process for the organization.
  • Improves the organization’s effectiveness through coaching, training and problem solving as well as fostering a result driven, solutions-oriented environment that is highly collaborative and challenges team members to reach their full potential and achieve long-term success.
  • Encourages and seeks opportunities for collaborative efforts across departments, seeks understanding of issues, anticipates and troubleshoots problems, and resolves escalated matters involving staff or customers. Consults with President and management team to discuss issues, coordinate activities, and resolve problems.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Adopts a systems view of the organization and ensures cross-functional communication occurs between departments as well as a clear understanding of the “big picture” by department managers.
  • In collaboration with the President, continually assesses and verifies the organizational capabilities and capacity, advocating for change as appropriate, and eliminating practices that could reinforce silos within the organization or adversely affect providing residential and commercial customers a seamless sales and service experience.
  • Leads the development of the business company’s revenue forecast and operating budgets for review and approval by the President. Monitors key performance indicators and meets with department managers regularly to understand departmental trends and what’s influencing performance outcomes. Champions initiatives to address plan variances and managing budget within established parameters.
  • Monitors initiatives by department managers to achieve budgeted results and other financial and non-financial goals. Ensures allocation of resources align with the needs of the department and operations has the proper infrastructure, systems, reporting policies and procedures to effectively scale and meet productivity and efficiency standards.
  • Provides the President with regular status updates on the organization’s performance and analysis of the critical success factors that affect daily and long-term operation of the organization.
  • Continually seeks feedback regarding processes improvement and leads the evaluation of systems and processes that result in efficiency and productivity gains. Works with managers to identify continuous improvement opportunities for service delivery and operational effectiveness. Compares operating results to performance targets and ensures that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
  • Establishes service level agreements, monitors vendor performance, and advises on service recovery plans to address significant performance issues affecting operations.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Leads the strategic planning process and development of long-range operating objectives, plans and policies. Drives the execution of assigned initiatives that support the strategic and operational objectives of the business unit. Keeps all stakeholders informed about that status of the associated action plans and works across functions, as required, to produce the desired outcomes.
  • Maintains a positive and productive relationship with the Board of Advisors and seeks their counsel to challenge internal assumptions and decisions affecting the company’s business model. Presents information to the Board and assists the President with establishing meeting agendas for processing key issues facing the company.
  • Assists the President with assessing the company’s design and aligning the organizational structure, roles, responsibilities and individual performance to Detmer’s strategy.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position requires the employee to communicate verbally and in writing, hear a conversational level, use both hands and legs, operate a motor vehicle and occasionally (6-33% time on job) perform job tasks requiring the use of a variety of personal protective equipment, such as, eye and hearing protection and hard hats, infrequently (2-5% time on job) requiring the use of safety gloves and boots, and rarely (1% time on job or less) require the use of a respirator and body protection.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently (34-66% time on job) sit, occasionally (6-33% time on job) stand, walk, climb stairs, repetitively use fingers, twist/bend wrists and have wrists and feet in prolonged positions of flexion or extension. The employee will infrequently (2-5% time on job) be required to stoop, kneel, crawl, balance on scaffold, climb ladders, pull hand over hand, repetitively grasp items with pressure, twist/turn, reach, do incentive work or operate hand and foot controls.
The lifting and carrying requirements of the job require the employee to occasionally (6-33% time on job) lift and carry up to 35 pounds a distance of up to 30 ft. The employee will infrequently (2-5% time on job) lift or push up to 50 pounds a distance of up to 30 ft.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The employee will frequently (34-66% time on job) work indoors. Occasionally (6-33% time on job) the employee will be required to travel, work outdoors in temperatures below 55°F and in heat 90°F, around vibrations and dust greater than a nuisance, moving vehicles. The employee will also infrequently (2-5% time on job) work in temperatures over 100°F , work alone, below ground and in confined spaces, with machinery with moving parts, with grease and oils, ladders/scaffolds, chemicals, mists, gases and odors and with hands in water.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of senior level executive experience managing staff and operations in a service-based industry.
  • Reasoning Development: Apply business management principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Mathematical Development : Proficient in applying mathematical operations for analyzing, interpreting and assessing strategic opportunities, business performance, and operational issues.
  • Language Development: Ability to read and interpret technical journals, financial reports, legal documents, workplace rules and procedures; prepare business letters, summaries, and reports, using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English.
  • Licensures and Certifications: None Required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher.
