Description
Job Specifications: ( Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required)
This position works with one of our low ratio/autism units supporting K-5th classes of approximately 9 students with more intense needs (including behavior needs) with a 1:3 ratio of staff/student. The Teacher Assistant Low Ratio assists the Teacher/Para in ensuring all students are achieving at high levels academically, socially, and emotionally.
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Perform lead teacher assistant duties in absence of the lead teacher assistant, including, but not limited to following lesson plans, and leading other staff in the classroom.
  2. Implement lesson plans as directed by teacher/LTA
  3. Implement individual education plan (IEP) goals as directed by teacher/LTA including providing small group instruction.
  4. Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques and collect required data.
  5. Assist in implementing individual behavior plan.
  6. Assist in planning and developing instructional materials and equipment, including enrichment materials for each unit, so that maximum use may be made of resources.
  7. Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning children's hands, faces, etc.
  8. Assist in the communication with therapists and other special service agencies and incorporate therapy and other special requirements into class activities.
  9. Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
  10. Ensure Teacher and/or LTA are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
  11. Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Teacher and/or LTA.
  12. Participate in required meetings with classroom team, including therapists, lead teacher assistants and teacher and campus (i.e. All staff meetings)
  13. Assist in ensuring that parents sign in and out each day.
  14. Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPPA, FERPA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
  15. Assist with the implementation and compliance with the MTSS process and support social skills implementation and documentation.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience:
  • 1 year or more classroom experience working with classroom grade population
  • Prefer experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Strong behavior skills
  • Experience tracking data
Education and Training:
  • G.E.D. or High School Diploma
  • CPI Trained
  • Behavior coursework preferred.
