Job Summary:

The Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for sourcing equipment, raw material, and managing vendors. The Purchasing Agent will form an integral part of the Purchasing team in the achievement of Operational objectives. The role is key to leading the Company forward in securing quality suppliers of materials and components covering price, quality, and on-time delivery.

Effective communication across all levels of the enterprise is essential.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Take a direct, hands-on role in daily purchasing activities including buying and expediting goods and services required for production, sales, facilities, and administrative support.
  • Assist in managing and controlling the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of materials and finished parts for production.
  • Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production. Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the company's needs.
  • Monitor and report on vendor performance and cost on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify new suppliers, where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates.
  • Adhere to stringent material controls to ensure company targets are met. These include spend, usage, scrap, inventory levels, etc.
  • Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down external spending.
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes for PO generation, PO maintenance, and vendor maintenance.
  • Assist in quarterly physical inventory counts.
  • Foster close working relationships with associated departments, e.g., Production, Engineering and Finance.
  • Elevate issues, problems, delays, etc., to Purchasing Manager as required.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 2 years of Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Knowledge of inventory management (min/max, reorder points, safety stock, cycle counts, etc.)
  • Must possess strong computer skills (MS Office Suite) and can quickly learn and utilize various software platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment
  • Convey a sense of urgency to achieve outcomes and exceed expectations; persist despite obstacles and setbacks.
  • Unquestionable character and integrity. Must have high ethical and moral standards coupled with strong judgment, appropriate levels of discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Will possess strong communication skills to effectively communicate with staff, operating line employees, and outside contacts.
  • Must work as a team member, maintaining a positive attitude toward planning changes and management philosophy and deviations from the standard norm.
  • Must be able to work effectively with autonomy.

Education:

  • AA/AS in related field required.
  • BS/BA in related field preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for a prolonged period of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM 5:00 PM.
