MEMBER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
The Member Assistance Program (MAP) is a division within the United Federation of Teachers (UFT)
providing short-term confidential individual and group counseling to in- service union members. Our professionally trained counselors assist with numerous mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, domestic violence, anger and stress management, school or job difficulties, family conflict, relationship problems, substance use, co-dependency, gambling, crisis/suicide interventions and food addiction/eating problems.
MAP is also a NY state provider for continuing education credits for social workers, psychologists
and licensed mental health counselors.
Position Description:
This part-time position is for an entry level candidate who is (or about to become) a master’s
level licensed mental health professional. The primary role of this candidate is to create and
oversee specific mental health events. This person would handle things like creating, managing and implementing a professional development event, and other administrative tasks. In addition, this role will allow for individual and group counseling. This candidate must also have a strong
clinical assessment baseline to formulate an impression of the diagnosis, develop and modify a
treatment plan, and utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to help our members through their
challenges. This position reports to the mental health manager of MAP.
Education, Experience and Skill Requirement:
• MSW or LMSW/LMHC.
• At least 1 year of experience in the social work field.
• Has worked with adults and families.
• Ability to network and utilize other existing community resources.
• Ability to organize and provide professional development courses throughout the school year for specific populations.
• Strong administrative skill set; organized, detail oriented, self-starter, team player-success
in working collaboratively with other professional staff.
• Develop solution-oriented action plans in collaboration with staff based on MAP assessment.
• Willingness to undergo additional training during the summer and throughout the year, as well
as travel among field locations throughout the five boroughs.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in a timely manner with
colleagues and other staff.
• Organization, computer and confidential record keeping skills.
• Preferable to have experience with Salesforce platform
• Experience with social media platforms desired.
• Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
• Microsoft Office and Zoom Proficient
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assisting in the maintenance of all NY state approved continuing education courses to specific
populations each school year.
• Provide confidential individual and group counseling to adults both virtually and in person.
• Maintain an organized skill set of all case notes, meetings, and supervisions via Salesforce
systems.
• Provide crisis intervention to members as needed via phone or in-person.
• Attend all required meetings at UFT office locations
• Keep open communication and consultation with direct report.
• Support in maintaining updated referral database.
• Collaborate with other UFT departments for departmental and member support
