Job Title:   Energy Systems Specialist

Position Purpose and Objectives:

Develop and administer programs for United Power in the area of energy systems.  Energy systems include solar, electric vehicles, smart thermostats, battery energy storage, and other similar technologies.  Respond to questions from members on programs; process enrollments and applications; and work with vendors on successful implementation of energy services on behalf of our members.  Works within United Power software and systems to monitor and operate energy systems in accordance with United Power requirements under assigned program area.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead the implementation and administration of energy system programs for our members
  • Communicate with members interested in these programs and services
  • Process program enrollment applications for members, ensuring applications meet United Power requirements
  • Maintain documentation for member applications including signed Terms & Conditions, program requirements, and other legal documents
  • Coordinate inventory of physical equipment where applicable
  • Work with vendors to ensure energy systems are installed and performing to specifications and addressing any errors that arise in the operation of those systems
  • Process service orders to and from vendors and schedule appointments for service orders with members on behalf of United Power
  • Coordinate with United Power Engineering Department on operation of energy systems and their impact on the grid
  • Develop periodic reports of energy systems that have errors, problems, or concerns and follow up with a site inspection or service order to address them
  • Grant permission to operate connected energy systems and work with members to maintain connectivity
  • Maintain a master spreadsheet with information on energy systems and associated accounts
  • Administers software related to energy systems in assigned program area
  • Document operating procedures for energy systems in assigned program area
  • Provide project support for small energy systems projects in United Power’s service territory
  • Researches and develops new programs and services related to energy systems for our members
  • Work with internal stakeholders on process improvements and marketing opportunities for energy systems programs and services
  • Coordinate with Member Services to train new employees on energy service programs. Training includes, but is not limited to: information about the equipment and vendors, explanation of how the process begins at United Power, activation of member’s system, incentives available and communication we provide members about energy systems
  • Assist in the review and filing of reports to United Power and regulatory bodies
  • Identifies and supports implementation of process improvements for residential customer services and associated software systems.
  • Represent United Power at functions and events to assist members in understanding programs offered
  • Creates, expands, and maintains professional and productive working relationships with peers and stakeholders. Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation and inclusion in the workplace

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Coordinate mid-sized projects for the successful implementation of new energy programs and services.
  • Perform other duties as may be requested or assigned to meet the needs of United Power in the interest of good management practices.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

Reports directly to the Energy Programs Director. Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments.

No supervisory duties.

Problem Solving:  

Provides solutions to a variety of project related problems of moderate scope and complexity.

Discretion/Latitude: 

Approves applications and connects energy systems to the United Power grid.

Decisions requiring engineering approvals are referred to the engineering department.

Approvals of program changes and new services will be escalated to the department director.

Impact: 

Contributes to completion of routine technical tasks. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules.

Liaison:  

  • Frequently interacts with members regarding questions about bill concerns, energy system connectivity, enrollment and approval of systems, and responding to errors related to energy systems in assigned area.
  • Frequently interacts with vendors on enrollments and updates, troubleshooting, approvals, and new product releases.
  • Frequently interacts with contractors to issue and approve work orders on behalf of United Power.
  • Maintaining internal and external reports
  • Frequently interacts with employees on questions about energy systems, incentives, training, processing applications and bill credits, communicating with troubleshooters and stakeholders interested in system status.
