United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is Hiring a Content Producer (Two Opportunities Available) Near Washington, DC

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America's national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Information about the role
This position resides within the office of Museum Experience and Digital Media (MEDM). The Museum Experience and Digital Media office (MEDM) creates and maintains experiences in physical and digital spaces that encourage people to think about how and why the Holocaust happened and the lessons it holds for us today. The office applies an audience-centered approach, best practices in storytelling, and new technologies across platforms to create experiences for a variety of audiences. These include the general public, Museum visitors, students, educators, policy makers, and donors, among others.
The Digital Learning Tools team within MEDM seeks a Content Producer to join a dedicated and passionate content development team. Help us tell the history of the Holocaust through stories aimed at making the past relevant today. This position involves website production for digital resources that support the Museum's student, educator, and general public audiences, primarily the online Holocaust Encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia reaches millions; its content must be created and produced to rigorous standards of accuracy and accessibility.
This position is located in Washington, DC and is hybrid telework eligible, within the local commuting area of the Museum worksite.
This is a full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the Museum's private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Major Duties, and Responsibilities for the role
  • Write, edit, and produce content for the Museum's online Holocaust Encyclopedia. Produce digital content using our content management system (CMS).
  • Review digital content for readability, accessibility, and Museum style standards; perform copyediting and readability editing.
  • Perform file management, data entry, and hyperlinking for encyclopedia content.
  • Perform media research as assigned, primarily within the USHMM's online Collections to identify assets for use in the Holocaust Encyclopedia.
  • Upload media assets and write draft descriptions.
  • Perform a variety of coordination and quality control tasks to facilitate content creation and revisions.
  • Assist with the review and prioritization of content requests and collaborate on solutions.
  • Work with subject matter experts to implement search engine optimization (SEO) and accessibility best practices.
  • Monitor, gather, and present data on web content using tools such as Google Analytics, translating findings into insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for the role
  • 1-3 years' experience copyediting and familiarity with the principles of readability editing.
  • Three or more years of experience managing and producing digital content.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven skill at creating clear and concise content, including: writing copy, curating media, and creating digital experiences with impact.
  • Experience working in content management systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience using tools such as Slack and Google Workspace.
  • Experience working at an education organization, museum, agency, or media organization that works with the public and students.

Preferred Qualifications for the role
  • BA in history or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Holocaust history.
  • Experience with Google Analytics or similar software, including a demonstrated ability to extract actionable findings from data.
  • Familiarity with SEO and accessibility best practices and Agile project management methods.
