The United States Space Force (USSF) at Schriever Space Force Base is searching for a Mission Director for the Consolidated SATCOM Operations Center (CSOC) (NH-0301-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

Description:

As a Mission Director within the Consolidated SATCOM Operations Center (CSOC), you will be a member of a team which oversees the operation of a 24/7 SATCOM operations floor. The CSOC is the focal point for all Delta 8 SATCOM mission areas and hosts representatives from three operational squadrons and civilian counterparts across four segments of the RF spectrum. Mission Directors are responsible for managing those forces and providing them with technical direction. Mission directors will advise the Delta Commander by providing them with accurate and timely information to enable mission command. The Mission Director will also be responsible for monitoring on-going operations and ensuring critical information requirements are routed through the Delta's chain of command and monitored for any change in status. It is possible that Mission Directors will have regular interface with multi-star flag officers, and international and interagency partners.

Ideal Candidate:

A background in DoD MILSATCOM will be indispensable to a seamless integration into the operation. Additionally, mission directors are expected to be technically proficient and possess leadership qualities. Candidates should have leadership experience and be comfortable working in a highly dynamic, and often ambiguous, environment. Mission Directors should be autonomous, capable of making decisions within the limits of their authority without assistance from squadron leadership, and be able to provide squadron leadership with recommendations to improve processes and policies. Additionally, they should be able to anticipate problems, identify and implement solutions, and assess their efficacy. Good communication skills will be essential to a Mission Director's success, ensuring that information flows freely from the operations floor, through the chain of command, and back down to the operators on the floor. Candidates who identify as extroverts may find that their interpersonal skills are beneficial, especially as it pertains to developing mutually supportive working relationships across numerous supporting organizations, agencies, and commands.

Key Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the applicable principles, concepts, policies, operations, and laws; functions, programs, and systems applicable to the duties of the position; sources, responsibilities, and means for providing assistance and advice to resolve problems; and all aspects of support.

2. Knowledge of safety, security, military and civilian personnel management, manpower concepts, Military Equal Opportunity (MEO) and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Practical knowledge of education, readiness, and budget execution concepts, principles, operations, and practices.

4. Extensive knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, management, and operation of large organizations to provide high level staff guidance, and participate in the development of goals, objectives, and policies.

5. Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures related to developing, planning, budgeting, and coordinating activities, programs, facility programming, contracting, and customer interests and needs.

6. Skill in managing the work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet organizational requirements, goals, and objectives within available resources.

7. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization directly and through subordinate supervisors.

8. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

9. Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings and weekends, i.e., shift work, to include overnight and Federal Holidays, and may be subject to recall. Incumbent may be required to report to work during base exercises, contingencies, or emergency situations and overtime/comp time/credit hours may be required to accomplish assigned duties.

Requirements:

1. Must be a U.S Citizen.

2. PCS/Relocation funding is not available.

3. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.

4. Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

5. May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

6. May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.

7. This position is not eligible for telework.

8. This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications.

9. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

10. Incumbents on this position may need to be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.

11. Work may require the employee to drive a Government vehicle. Must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate valid driver's license.
