Job Title: Ideas Inspire Fellow
Department: Public Policy
Reports To: Vice President, Impact Strategies
Overview:United Way Bay Area (UWBA) mobilizes the Bay Area to dismantle the root causes of poverty and build equitable pathways to prosperity UWBA brings together partners from the nonprofit, business, and government sectors to address Bay Area poverty. We partner across sectors, develop solutions, capture the data we need, and use those insights to support public policy and create research-backed community initiatives. These initiatives include:
  • Housing Justice: Improve access to stable, affordable housing and homelessness prevention.
  • Employment & Career Opportunities: Build systems and pathways to career and employment opportunities.
  • Financial Stability: Help families increase income and savings on their way to financial stability.
  • Basic Needs: Ensure access to basic needs like food, housing, and legal services.
Fellowship Opportunity: The Ideas Inspire Fellowship hosted by United Way Bay Area offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about public policy and community impact. Fellows will play a crucial role in the development and execution of our annual voter guide, which educates the public on local and state measures related to our public policy agenda. As a fellow, you will work closely with UWBA's Public Policy team, gaining hands-on experience in policy research, analysis, and public engagement. What You’ll Do:
  • Policy Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis on local and state ballot measures.
  • Voter Resources: Update election information and provide voter resources as requested.
  • Copyediting and Design: Assist with copyediting and design considerations for the voter guide.
  • Event Planning: Assist with planning an event to launch the voter guide.
  • Logistics and Coordination: Handle logistics involved in scheduling, planning, and following up on meetings with internal and external partners.
Who You Are:
  • Experienced: At least one year of experience in public policy.
  • Skilled Communicator: Outstanding writing and oral communication skills.
  • Organized: Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-Oriented: Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and dependability. Excellent proofreading skills.
  • Engaged: Strong interest or experience in policy research and electoral processes.
