An experienced strategic workforce planning practitioner will have many opportunities to collaborate with our business line leaders and People Business Partner teams to effect change, as the Director of Organization Design and Transformation will play a key role in shaping and implementing Optum Health’s workforce transformation initiatives. 

The organization's evolution and future growth will be supported by your application of organizational and leadership experience. As an important member of the Optum Health People Team, you will have the chance to impact not just your immediate team but also the entire Optum Health People Team.

A pivotal role in the planning and implementation of workforce initiatives aimed at transforming the Optum Health landscape will be played by the Director of Organization Design and Transformation. To identify and prioritize the essential needs that allow Optum Health to lead transformation and achieve its long-term growth goals, this role will work in conjunction with People Business Partners, COEs, corporate functions, and business executives.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • As part of Optum Health’s business transformation, lead important design and transformation initiatives in collaboration with the People team and leaders
  • Implement strategic business plans within Optum Health, collaborate with the People Business Partners and business executives to carry out important Organization Design interventions for individuals, teams, and the organization as a whole
  • Encourage the implementation of our Optum Health short-, medium-, and long-term strategies and serve as a coach or model for the People Team's support, involvement, and direction of future internal and external impacts
  • Oversee the execution of crucial deliverables for organization development and make sure that the work is purposefully focused on realizing our vision
  • To improve results, make use of reliable, up-to-date frameworks, assist leadership with capability strategy, and map across organizations
  • Offer systemic guidance to all teams and departments within the company 
  • Assist in organizing downsizing and redeployment initiatives for the entire company

Powered by Data:

  • Partner with the Data & Analytics team to support transformation
  • Support the application of workforce diagnostic support and leverage insights from external macroeconomic and people data and trends that may impact future structures and workforce composition
  • Partner to build a process of measuring the impact of organization design and transformation interventions

Enabled by consistent tools and collaboration with OD&D partners across UHG:

  • Provide leadership and project management for the Organization Design enabling our People Business Partner community and business leaders to leverage a common approach to organization design and development
  • Continually seek out, maintain and share “best practices” across the enterprise 
  • Partner with central UHG Talent Development colleagues to provide quality, consistency, and alignment across the enterprise
  • Create & deploy consistent tools and processes to enable the People Team and business leaders to diagnose organizational needs and determine a path forward

Required Qualifications:

  • 8 years of Organization Development/Human Capital experience
  • Advanced level of experience/proficiency in Organization Design and Change Management
  • Experience in capability assessment across organizations (M&A)
  • Advanced facilitation and collaboration skills with the ability to bring opposing perspectives together with positive results
  • Solid diagnostic skills: ability to distill complex data/information into actionable plans
  • History of building relationships and credibility with the business required; must be able to represent the function with internal and external peers, as well as business leaders

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Formal Change Management certification (Prosci etc.)
  • Experience in Global organization development
  • Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills. Cultivates and maintains highly effective working relationships and has a comprehensive and well-developed network 
  • Clear sense of self. Awareness of the impact on individuals and the organization. Casts a positive leadership shadow. Ability to facilitate the development of self-awareness in others
  • Leadership presence: ability to effectively communicate and influence at most levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and balance multiple stakeholder/projects
  • Working knowledge in multiple People business specialties such as benefits, compensation, HC Technology, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Employee Relations, and Compliance
  • Knowledge of UnitedHealth Group’s business, leaders, and business objectives 
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills; can communicate effectively at many levels

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $147,300 to $282,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
