Provide technical leadership for a Software Engineering Team delivering The Member Microservice for the Prospective Program. Provides mentoring and leadership for other programmers on the team utilizing Java, MySQL, Kafka, Hive and various technologies. Currently, Ashwin Siramadas provides technical leadership and guidance for Engineering Excellence, coding standards, CI/CD, JUnit Testing, GitLab, Rally and related tools.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Hands-on Software Lead of a large geographically dispersed team in the US and India
• Interact with internal and external customers to understand product requirements and work with internal product groups to refine requirements
• Lead a team to interpret requirements from Product to perform Business Analysis/Modeling, Design/Architect, Development, Integration, Planning and management of Builds
• Manage software excellence using Configuration, Code Management, Code Standards Production/Customer Support, Maintenance, Enhancements and Quality Control, Testing, Implementation, Documentation
• Work with Optum Leadership and other stakeholders to understand business priorities and drive execution of the team to build software solutions in a Scaled Agile environment
• Foster growth of other more junior developers by mentoring and helping with complex coding problems
• Provide Software Engineering Excellence and act as an agent for Quality in the team by providing guidance to other team members and setting the example for excellence

Required Qualifications: 

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 15 years of experience in software development using object-oriented languages such as Java, J2EE, database skills and big data
• 10 years of experience with Customer Interaction, Business Analysis/Modeling, Design/Architect, Development, Integration, Planning and management of Builds, Configuration, Code Management, Production/Customer Support, Maintenance, Enhancements and Quality Control, Testing, Implementation, Documentation
• 10 years of experience leading cross-functional teams in the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade Java applications
• 10 years of experience in architecting scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems using Java and related technologies
• 10 years of experience mentoring and coaching team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
• 10 years of hands-on experience in Spring Frameworks such as Spring MVC, IOC, Security, AOP, JPA, Batch and JDBC - 12 years
• 10 years of hands-on experience using Creational, Structural, Behavioral and J2EE design patterns and adapting these patterns to the designing and developing multi-Tier distributed Enterprise Applications
• 10 years of experience in Agile (SCRUM) and Waterfall development process
• 5 years of hands-on experience in building Microservices using Spring Boot and containerization using Docker
• 5 years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with Docker and Kubernetes integration, automating the build, test, and deployment processes for containerized applications
• 3 years of experience with the Healthcare domain, especially with Medicare Advantage programs and implementation of systems integrating Medical Chart Data with backend data pipelines and JSON Microservices
• 3 years of hands-on experience utilizing Spark Streaming with Apache Kafka for real-time processing

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience designing and implementing OAuth 2.0 authentication and authorization mechanisms using Spring Security OAuth2 in Spring Boot applications
• Experience with build and deployment tools including Ant / Maven, logging and Debugging using Slf4j and Log4j, unit and integration testing using JUnit
• Use of the Rally system for managing user stories and features
• Experience designing and executing performance test scenarios for a suite of web applications, APIs, and microservices using Apache JMeter, identifying performance bottlenecks and scalability issues
• Knowledge of Confluence for creating requirements documents and other Wiki documents
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, OneDrive and SharePoint
