As a senior designer joining the Optum Financial team, you’ll play a pivotal role in improving how our members navigate their health benefit accounts through the Optum Bank website and mobile app. We aim to help people get the very most out of their health dollars, whether they’re submitting a new claim, reimbursing themselves or investing. You’ll learn the in’s and out’s of HSAs, FSAs, Commuter benefits, healthy food benefits and more, while driving industry-leading innovation in a mobile app and website utilized by millions of people. Plus, you’ll get to collaborate closely with top-notch product, design, marketing, and technology partners in an ever-evolving, fast-paced environment. 

Sr. Designer is responsible for the delivering UX/UI artifacts for features for a product capability and act as the subject matter expert (SME) across the different portals/surfaces.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with product management, other user experience disciplines, analytics and engineering in discovery or requirements gathering sessions
  • Attend the feature kick-off sessions to ask the right questions advocating the user's interest and craft alternate solutions
  • Ensures the right team members are pulled in throughout the process. (i.e. UI, content, a11y, front end development
  • Build & present design artifacts at the internal, PO and leadership reviews driven by requirements, analytical & research data, best practices and common components & interactions
  • Manage timelines, milestones, internal processes on feature work to ensure timely delivery
  • Experts as the SME on the capabilities across the different portals/surfaces/channels
  • Contribute to the design pattern library & process improvements
  • Partners with research team in prep work and build prototypes for user testing
  • Work closely with the design manager to build UX and research strategy
  • Participates in hiring the process
  • Mentors other UX designers

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 years relevant work experience in product, UX, and/or UI design
  • Expert-level understanding of the design process, pattern library and design documentation
  • Robust portfolio of work demonstrating an expert-level understanding of UX best practices, well-crafted UI, and solid design decision-making
  • Extensive experience working collaboratively with Product and Engineering partners, ideally within agile framework 
  • Proven ability to communicate UX/UI feedback to fellow designers in a constructive, clear way
  • Proven effective presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to speak to design work, process, decisions made, as well as broader product strategy and business goals driving the work
  • Working knowledge of Figma, including component functionality and prototyping

  • Experience crafting alternative solutions, exploring all options and thinking outside the box
  • Ability to show courage ask questions and take proactive action in every aspect of their role
  • Demonstrated willingness to hunt down answers, dig in to challenges and go the extra mile to solve problems
  • Understanding of what it means to participate in a psychologically safe environment, and can demonstrate how to give and receive feedback in a constructive, supportive way
  • Proven relentless attention to detail, always delivering pixel-perfection
  • Proven track record of reviewing customer feedback and analytics at the start of projects, utilizing those metrics to influence design decisions
  • Ability advocate for data-driven decision-making, closely partnering with analytics and research team to make solid product decisions

Total Compensation. As part of your total compensation package, which includes base, bonus opportunity, PTO and holiday pay, you will also receive these benefits at these rates, not to mention a remote work opportunity and healthy work/life balance.

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
