The Director of Grants & Development is responsible for planning and implementing a program of identification, cultivation and solicitation of grants from private, corporate and government sources to support the programs of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines (Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Blank Children’s Hospital, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Methodist West Hospital, John Stoddard Cancer Center, Taylor House Hospice, Eyerly Ball) and related entities.

Provides leadership and management in identifying funding sources from private, corporate and government sources whose stated interests, guidelines and funding patterns of support align with the strategic vision and priorities of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines (UPH-DM). Add to an already existing base of approximately 100 prospective and current grantors.

• Initiates, writes and edits proposals appropriate both to the interests and priorities of UPH-DM and those of potential funding sources. Works with selected administrators, medical staff, Foundation staff and others within UPH-DM to develop and finalize proposals.
• Actively researches, seeks out, and identifies external opportunities that present viable funding opportunities and match organization goals and priorities. Provides funding sources with information and reports required in support of proposals or grants. Arranges site visits with foundations and other organizations as appropriate.
• Tracks and meets all stewardship and reporting requirements of all grantors to the Foundation.
• Maintains all documentation related to current and previous grants, and manages process to stay current on all requirements.
• Provide leadership in organizing visits to UPH-DM by grant-making corporations/businesses and foundation leaders who may be potential funders.
• Uses Raiser’s Edge in support of strategy development and monitor activities/proposals with grantors.
• Maintains a master calendar of proposal deadlines and reporting dates established by corporations, foundations and government entities.
• Pursues all grant opportunities that support major funding priorities of UPH-DM.
• Engages the Foundation president and other senior leaders at UP -DM in the cultivation and solicitation of key grantors, as appropriate.
• Works cooperatively with Foundation and communications staff to ensure that public relations/marketing requirements related to grants are identified and met.
• Builds relationships with key department leaders at UPH-DM for partnership in grants management.
