Overview:
AS NEEDED Patient Care Coordinator
Waterloo Center for Pain Medicine
 
Serves as a member of the clinical team under the general supervision of the Physician and Administrator. Assists the physician in the care and treatment of the patients by collection of blood through phlebotomy (blood collection) techniques, including vacutainer, scheduling procedures, reviewing pre-procedure instructions, and answering phones.

Responsibilities:
Patient Care
• Competent in drawing blood and processing blood product and other tasks as assigned. Scheduling patients for in office procedure with thorough explanation.
Customer Services
• Greets all patients and families that present to the center and answers the phone with a welcoming attitude and ascertains their needs. Communicates and coordinates any unresolved patient/family issues promptly to unit leadership.
Administrative/Clerical Support
• Engages in assisting with the scheduling of procedures. Acts as an appointed champion of patient satisfaction and improvement.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
• Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
• Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
• Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
• Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
• Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
• Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
• Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge using work processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser
• Basic knowledge of insurance. requirements and medical billing practices.
• Must be flexible with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
