UnityPoint Health is Hiring a RN, 4 Medical (Inpatient Unit) Near Waterloo, IA

OverviewRN- 4 MedicalAllen Hospital - WaterlooEligible for $10K Sign on BonusFull-time, 0.9 - Staff will work either Day shifts (7am-7pm) or Night shifts (7pm-7am) with every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation. 4 Medical is a 23-bed inpatient unit. Two of these rooms are hospice suites. On 4 Medical, you will also experience medical patients and get the opportunity to work with patients who may have neurological illnesses, such as a stroke, oncology patients coming in for chemotherapy related issues or maybe patients needing end of life care.UnityPoint Health is embarking on an exciting and innovative care delivery model. Our new Collaborative Care Model (CCM) enables all members of the multidisciplinary care team to practice at the top of their scope – leveraging your unique skills, training, and strengths. As an RN in this care model, there is a built-in clinical ladder to support your career goals. This includes the potential for leadership and growth by working in different roles within the model by being an Attending or Lead Nurse.
As an RN in this care model, you will provide care for a specified group of patients, utilizing all the skills you have gained in obtaining your license. With the support of team members within the care group, you will perform tasks or skills within your scope of practice, including but not limited to:
  • Provide safe and reliable patient centered care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Manage care of patients and ensure the completion of assessments and vital signs.
  • Administer medications as ordered by the provider.
  • Complete bedside procedures (e.g., foley insertion, NG, dressing changes, drains, etc.).
  • Provide evidenced-based patient education starting at time of admission.
  • Document daily progress toward care plan goals.
  • Round with providers and notify them of patient updates or obtain orders as appropriate.
  • Complete discharge education and review instructions with patient and/or caregivers.
  • Document in the electronic medical record
Responsibilities
  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension
  • Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Nursing.
  • Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing. Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity, customer/patient focused.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
