The Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) department handles the preparation and management of a patient before surgery. This includes a variety of tests, patient education, and meetings with the health care team to inform the patient about what to expect before the procedure and during recovery. Pre-surgery tests are performed to provide complete information about the patient's overall health, to prepare the patient for anesthesia, and to identify and treat any potential problems ahead of time.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers. Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the postoperative plan of care for the surgical patient. In addition, the coordinator provides support and direction to the surgical services team.

Education: | Graduate of accredited nursing program. (Must obtain Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 5 years of hire) | BSN in Nursing |
Experience: | 12 months of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency. | Preferred critical care experience. |
License(s)/Certification(s): | Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire. Basic cardiac monitoring within three (3) months Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within six (3) months and Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification within six (6) months, Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. | Specialty certification |
