Universal Civil Construction (UCC ) is a commercial and residential civil construction and sitework company in South Carolina. The company self-performs earthwork and pipe installation, and is currently seeking an experienced pipe laborer (ditch man or top man) to join our storm drainage or utility crew. Pipe Laborer

Typical Duties

• Follow safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment
• Be efficient and productive at rigging pipe for placement, manually grading pipe ditch or pipe bedding with shovel.
• Performing maintenance checks, equipment inspection, daily track cleaning, fueling and greasing
• Be familiar with excavation plans and machine limitations and follow OSHA safe digging procedures
• Observe verbal communication, hand signals, grade stakes, grade control devices
• Be able to perform physical labor such as leveling pipe bedding, operating a plate tamp and/or walk behind roller for compaction of pipe backfill, and placing fabric in pipe trench.
• Perform manual labor as needed
• Complete all duties as directed by supervisors

Skill, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience

• Must have a hard work ethic.
• Must be dependable.
• Experience with heavy equipment operation and pipe installation a plus.
• Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved with civil construction
• Physical ability to walk on uneven surfaces and climb on equipment to inspect and to get to operator's seat
• Must be able to read and follow all policies and procedures at UCC

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old
• Able to pass a Drug test
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Have a valid driver's license
• Must have own reliable transportation to and from job site

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
