The Assistant Dean for Academics and Student Success position oversees the academic and student-centered administrative functions for the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering. The College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering currently has four academic departments: Computer Science (CS), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Environmental and Sustainability Engineering (ESE) and Nanotechnology, Science and Engineering (NSE).

Primary Responsibilities:

Enrollment and Course Management

  • Oversee CNSE instructional programs to ensure the efficient, optimal and successful delivery of the curriculum; assure equitable faculty workload and the effective deployment of CNSE teaching assistants and instructional resources; monitor graduate enrollment numbers.
  • In coordination with CNSE academic advisors and department chairs, the Assistant Dean will make changes to address shifting enrollment patterns; coordinate and manage enrollment and course scheduling across the college; monitor teaching evaluations (SIRF) to insure quality control on delivery of the curriculum; and work with Chairs on addressing faculty and TA teaching concerns.

Training, Coordination of Processes and Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Dean for Academics will co-supervise the individual CNSE Department Administrative Managers; train administrative managers, defining and insuring consistent implementation of administrative academic processes.

Curricular Changes and Initiatives

  • The Assistant Dean for Academics, in consultation with the Associate Dean, and Department Chairs, will review all curricular changes and new program initiatives within the College; serve as the liaison with both the Office of Undergraduate Education and the Graduate School on any new program proposals and works with the various Departments to move these proposals forward through University governance and off-campus review for New York State mandated ABET accreditations.

Graduate Enrollment and Assistantship Appointment

  • Coordinate with CNSE Department Chairs and Graduate Admissions Committees and focus on growing graduate enrollments, particularly at the master's level; serve as the liaison with the Graduate School on all matters related to CNSE graduate programs including admissions and recruitment activities; coordinate orientation activities and training of approximately 34 teaching assistants.

Student Affairs

The Assistant Dean for Academics will be the CNSE focal point for managing:

  • Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) approvals.
  • Student grievances
  • Academic integrity and violations (VAIRs)
  • Academic standings
  • CNSE internship requests in coordination with the Review Committee
  • Graduate milestones
  • CNSE testing including the DME, and Placement Tests
  • CNSE Learning Center including: hiring and supervising a group of approximately 15 tutors, creating the semester's schedule, and overseeing all activities of the LC.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Public Administration, or a related area from an accredited institution
  • Seven (7) years of experience working in Higher Education.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with academic program management and accreditation.
  • Experience in the use of Excel, Word, Access, and Business Intelligence Systems
  • Experience advising students including supporting international students.
  • Experience running student organization, academic center or similar.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of student VISA regulations and international student employment
