Job DescriptionThe Center for Citizenship and Constitutional Government is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to develop and advance its operations and its engagement programs with the broad range of the Center’s audiences, partners, and participants.
Who we are: The Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government ( CCCG ) is a vibrant academic center seeking to cultivate thoughtful and educated citizens by supporting scholarship and education focused on the ideas and institutions that make up effective constitutional government and a virtuous society. Focused on fundamental questions of law, politics, justice, and the common good, the CCCG is the home to the College of Arts and Letters’ Minor in Constitutional Studies, a popular academic program with more than 175 enrolled students. Among its activities, the Center also supports and offers programs for Ph.D. students, hosts a visiting scholar program, sponsors a lecture and debate series, runs the undergraduate Tocqueville Fellows program, sponsors a book series with UND Press, and hosts and supports scholarly conferences. In its courses, seminars, conferences, and colloquia, the CCCG seeks to nurture in its faculty and students the knowledge and character conducive to rigorous scholarship, insightful teaching, and responsible citizenship, thereby contributing to the University’s mission to pursue truth and to nurture a concern for the common good that will bear fruit in service to justice. The Center’s events annually draw into the CCCG community numerous dynamic scholars and major figures in American political, judicial, and intellectual life, as well as the general public.
Job Description: The Assistant Director plays an integral role in the strategic development, management, and growth of key programs and initiatives and serves as a member of the Center’s leadership team. The charge of the Assistant Director focuses on four key areas of responsibility:
  • Management of Center operations (includes management of daily financial and logistical operations related to the Center’s robust calendar of events; leading in the planning and execution of the Center’s principle events, including its annual Statesmanship Dinner; supervising Office Coordinator; and providing daily oversight on operational budgets);
  • Strategic outreach and marketing (includes leading the Center’s design of engaging and mission/vision-oriented marketing materials; coordinating with external marketing and media vendors; developing effective strategies for marketing and communicating Center programs and opportunities to internal and external markets; collaborating on the design and revision of the Center’s website; and serving as liaison with appropriate University units and offices on branding and communications issues.
  • Management of external relations (includes collaborating on the development of strategies for engaging benefactors; coordinating with appropriate University and College units and personnel on benefactor relations; and communicating with external centers and institutes); and
  • Strategic development and management of the Center’s metrics and measures (includes managing the Center’s annual and periodic metrics of success; collaborating on the production of the Center’s annual report; and serving as liaison to various internal and external partners and collaborators on metrics and measures).
Please note: This is a five-year, limited-term position. Contingent on funding, the position may be extended.
Minimum QualificationsEducation & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 5-8 years of transferable experience in higher education or other high-performance environment
  • Applicable project management experience

  • A history of success with a range of individuals from various backgrounds and ranks, including faculty, external partners, and benefactors.
  • A record of achievement developing strategic reports and documents.
  • An understanding of the Catholic mission of the University and a dedication to its fulfillment.

  • Exceptional communication (written and oral) and project management skills.
  • High level of attention to detail, ethical values, and initiative to work with a range of staff to achieve program and project goals.
  • An ability to develop programs and outputs in a progressive manner, over years, building on experience and attentiveness to emerging opportunities and growth.
  • Because of the dynamic nature of program growth and development, an ability to think and plan strategically and to work with changing needs and demands is a necessity. Due to the sensitive nature of many responsibilities in this position, an understanding of how best to maintain the security and confidentiality of information is required, as well as the proper dissemination and communication of timely details.
  • Due to the collaborative nature of the responsibilities and processes associated with this position, an ability and history of fostering a strong sense of teamwork is highly valued.
