Job Summary: The High Performance Computing Systems Administrator II works in the Office of Information Technology's research computing team assisting with daily operations of high performance computing (HPC) clusters and other research services and resources. Supports computational sciences, engineering, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), and other research fields. Builds, optimizes, and maintains the integrity of supercomputing and other research systems under general supervision. Assists in installations of new cluster nodes, switches, and optics. Assists in installation and maintenance of HPC software, tools, and user accounts. Assists faculty and students with HPC use.

Additional Department Summary: HPC resources and services are located within the UA HPC Center located on campus and UA HPC's colocation data center located in Birmingham, Alabama. This job includes occasional hands-on cluster tasks requiring travel to UA's HPC colocation data center located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree; OR bachelor's degree and two (2) years of high performance or Linux computing experience; OR associate's degree and four (4) years of IT experience to include two (2) years of high performance computing; OR High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of IT experience to include two (2) years of high performance computing.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of experience supporting a research computing technology such as hardware (HPC nodes, GPU workstations, etc.), virtual servers (VMWare, etc.), research software (MATLAB, GIS, TensorFlow, etc.), scripting (Python, etc.), storage platforms, high-speed interconnects, or user environments.
Four (4) years of Windows or Linux systems administration experience.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications: C, C , or Fortran language experience
