Academic Advising is currently recruiting for two Lead Undergraduate Academic Advisors!
The Academic Advising role is responsible for guiding first-year, undeclared, and interdisciplinary students through their educational journey from onboarding to graduation. This includes providing personalized academic advising, facilitating course selection, and addressing academic concerns. The role also involves interpreting test scores, explaining alternative credit options, and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations.
Key responsibilities include monitoring academic progress, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring confidentiality. The advisor serves as a liaison between students and university offices, supports students on academic warning or probation, and develops intervention strategies.
In addition to advising, this role includes leadership duties such as mentoring and supervising a team of undergraduate academic advisors, participating in program management, and contributing to policy development. The advisor is also involved in training, professional development, and research on best practices in academic advising.
Collaboration is essential, as the advisor works with various university departments to support student retention, orientation, recruitment, and registration. The advisor represents the department at student events and collaborates with academic divisions and external organizations to promote student success and professional development opportunities.

The position requires a deep understanding of university academic policies, accreditation compliance, and federal and state regulations. The advisor will apply academic advising theories, strategies, and best practices to support student success and ensure compliance with privacy and ethical guidelines.
The role involves project and data management, including analyzing and reporting on academic progress and advising metrics. Proficiency with technology tools, student information systems, and data management is essential.
Strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and effective time management are crucial for managing advising activities and implementing long-term strategic plans. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to provide high-quality customer service, resolve conflicts, and collaborate with academic departments and university leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and three years of experience or an equivalent amount of training and experience . Masters preferred.
Experience with student advising required.
Three years of direct experience working with students at the university level.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
