The position is specific to the Department of Mathematics and the Applied Mathematics Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (AM GIDP) at the University of Arizona.

The postdoc will contribute to the Innovation in Graduate Education (IGE) NSF funded project at the University of Arizona's Applied Mathematics Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (AM GIDP) that integrates data science and AI into the AM PhD curriculum. Collaborating closely with national and industrial laboratory partners, this initiative aims to foster a new generation of researchers equipped to tackle pressing national and global challenges in the AI realm. The overarching goal is to revolutionize graduate applied mathematics training, bridging academic learning with real-world applications in both traditional and contemporary AM contexts, encompassing data science and AI.

In addition, the IGE postdoc is provided a summer stipend to support their participation in IGE summer training activities for graduate students of the AM GIDP. Postdoc will have access to a travel allowance throughout their appointment to attend professional meetings.

• The successful candidate will be deeply involved in the research mission of the IGE, working closely with mathematical scientists and domain experts. In particular, the candidate will have the opportunity and expectation to work in transdisciplinary teams with researchers in Mathematics, Statistics, and domain scientists, and participate in vertical training of graduate students. We are interested in candidates with an ability to bridge the gaps between scientific endeavors and intellectual disciplines, strong communication and teaching skills, and in helping to train the next generation of mathematical scientists.
  30% Teaching for the Math Department - 1 1 load (1 course per semester) The position carries a teaching commitment of 6 units per year equivalent to two, one-semester mathematics courses per academic year, as well as maintaining an active research program.
  20% Service for the Applied Math GIDP - coordinating activities under the Innovation in Graduate Education (IGE) / NSF grant by exploring interactions via graduate students with National and Industrial Lab partners.
  50% Research under guidance of AM/GIDP faculty and in collaboration with an Industrial or National Lab partners involved in the IGE/NSF grant.

• A Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics or related fields. The selected candidate must have a conferred Ph.D. upon hire.

• Experience in applied mathematics, computational science & engineering, scientific computing, and/or statistics, as well as evidence of dedication to effective teaching and interest in mentoring students.
