Department: ICE | NRSL Clinical Education IP NC Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Curriculum Development Specialist is a specially trained highly skilled professional providing clinical leadership with proficient knowledge and skills in assessment of educational needs and/or delivery of education for health care professionals. The Curriculum Development Specialist is also responsible for the assessment, development and evaluation of clinical training programs including the integration of theory and research into clinical practice. The Curriculum Development Specialist will also review and assess staff/student skills and design and develop educational programs to address deficiencies. This position will also function as a liaison with other departments/clinics/unit leadership to provide evidence based practices that yield patient safety, high quality care for patients and families while assessing and determining training needs as well as implement and evaluate educational programs. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications (Essential for the job – the applicant must possess at the time of hire) Education, general: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Experience, length in years and kind: 4 years of nursing specialty experience, including 2 years in nursing education or program assessment/development required. Licenses, certificates, or registration Registered Nurse in the State of Arkansas Certification in area of specialty in which position resides or obtainable within two years of hire. Provides learning opportunities to assist personnel in gaining knowledge, skills and appropriate behaviors necessary to perform assigned duties competently. Assists in educational tasks, including the system based onboarding including, but not limited to: licensed health care members, nursing, and unlicensed assistive personnel. Assists with educational needs identified by resource nurses, quality improvement, regulatory agencies, the journey towards Magnet, and other stakeholders. Collaborates with unit/area leadership to identify unit-specific clinical and behavioral competencies. Assesses and designs training and/or educational programs to address identified deficiencies/learning needs. Assures the use of adult learning principles and culturally appropriate initiatives and imparts this knowledge to faculty/staff as appropriate. Identifies barriers or concerns which interfere with the learning process and suggests alternatives for resolution; consults with departments, staff, and managers to determine goals. Supports process improvement initiatives as evidenced by lifelong learning and discovery opportunities. Professional Growth & Development Provide feedback support to Licensed and Unlicensed preceptors. Collaborates with Transition to Practice Lead to teach, review, and revise preceptor program. Serves as an educational liaison on nursing councils and other committees. Collaborates with unit/area leadership to develop educational plans for staff. Accurately records new employees’ attendance of clinical orientation. Collaborates with unit/area leadership to solve problems and assist when educational deficit is identified for individuals or unit/area staff. Always respectful of others. Participates in continuing education by completing the required development hours annually. Develops initial and ongoing Charge Nurse/Team Lead classes in collaboration with current Charge Nurses and Team Leads’ and leadership feedback. Coordinates onboarding skills/competency and evaluates methodology. Collaborates with the Online Learning Support Specialist to ensure scheduling for training events occurs, materials are prepared, and communication r/t the event. Safety, EBP, and Change Management Creates a safe and effective learning environment. Observes for safe work practices and provides input on safety issues. Serves as an educational liaison to improve patient safety. Collaborates with leadership to provide up to date training to new employees addressing practice, regulatory, safety and or quality initiatives during clinical orientation. Understands and communicates performance improvement initiatives to new hires during orientation. Identifies safety concerns and communicates appropriately. Collaborates with leadership to provide educational expertise for change processes and assists others through change transition. Adopts practices to improve work process, enhance guest satisfaction and reduce waste. Works effectively with team/work groups to fulfill UAMS mission and Department goals.
