Summary of Job Duties:

The Lab Support Technician will support all sections of the Clinical Outpatient Laboratory through proper phlebotomy techniques as well as proper specimen accessioning, processing and related activities. Use of correct blood collection tubes, ordering correct test from requisitions. Match identifiers to information on requisition and labels. Obtain blood from patient using proper phlebotomy techniques for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donation, or research. Resolve specimen and patient problems as they arise.


Qualifications:

High School Diploma/ GED or formal education equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous clinical laboratory experience

Additional Information:

  • Performs and documents preventative maintenance on and sterilizes lab equipment.
  • Maintains patient folder system including collating and entering new reports, setting up new folders, pulling folders needed for testing and interpretation, filing completed folders, and archiving inactive files for storage.
  • Communicates with clinics, physicians and labs regarding specimen integrity issues and/or reporting critical values. Enters results from referral labs into the patient chart.
  • Orders and prepares specimens to send to Reference Labs. Answers questions pertaining to orders, requisitions, and special collection or shipping instructions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
