Department: ICE | NUSL Neurology Center OP C Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Medical Assistant (MA) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license, but does require a medical assistant certificate. The MA is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in UAMS Neuroscience Clinics. Qualifications: Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED plus completion of Medical Assistant training from an accredited program. CPR Certification within 3 months of hire. Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire. Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability. Additional Information: Additional Information: The Medical Assistant (MA) works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse(s) and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The MA must pass the required competencies. The MA works within the Department of Nursing standards. The MA adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines. • Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints. • Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader. • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care. • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members. • Follows through on delegated patient care activities. • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition). • Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards. • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems. • Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties. • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention. This position will assist with Paperwork, surgical clearances, imaging uploading, assist with triage coverage in the clinic and other administrative duties for the ortho-spine team. May perform other duties as assigned.
