Departmental Overview
University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, data management, gift management, reporting and analytics, and more.
Advancement Operations develops and delivers the centralized business systems and services that support the work of UC Berkeley's 50 decentralized fundraising units-helping them collaborate and communicate in order to maximize their collective results. Advancement Operations also provides governance through its role as the official source of alumni and fundraising data. The unit offers services that include advancement data management and enhancement, business intelligence and analytics, business process analysis and design, advancement training and communication, and customer support.
Data Quality and Management Unit Overview
Data Quality and Management (DQM) is the office of record for data related to alumni, donors, and friends of UC Berkeley. DQM helps the advancement community meet programmatic and campaign goals by providing accurate, complete data that documents the campus's relationship with its constituents. DQM protects, archives, enhances, and manages the data and delivers it through efficient processes and effective systems in a secure environment. In addition, DQM supports the campus advancement community with customer service on all CADS issues

Responsibilities
Applies professional and broadly defined business analysis and data / information administration and data use concepts to manage and perform complex assignments. Applies professional data management concepts and defined data management and IT policies and procedures in completing assignments. Ensures accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of information maintained on alumni, donors, prospects, students, parents and friends. Identifies information requiring enhancement or correction. May identify, develop, and oversee data specializing in specific segments of data and/or data management techniques. This could include data cleanup of targeted sectors, global data enhancement projects by outside vendors, interdepartmental projects, and other initiatives with campuswide impact. Provides service to campus partners with data management, reporting and access requests, and advises users inappropriate procedures and sources to resolve issues. Identifies data issues and trends in user requests. Works with the Data Management Lead and Director to identify and develop new customer service guidelines and resources in response to trends in user needs. Identifies data sources, target populations, and/or new constituencies to be enhanced or established. Develops methodology for data enhancement or retrieval in assigned specialty area(s). Protects integrity, authenticity, and security of data in all assignment activities. Independently analyzes complex information requirements and documents them using formal data definition techniques and naming standards. Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes information from subject matter experts and technical personnel. Research relevant problem-domain literature and information standards and develops recommendations for data management resource plans including approaches, trends, sources and uses. Provides in-depth investigation, work and data flow analysis, uses well-developed problem-solving skills to identify data issues, gaps or needs. Provides comprehensive documentation to clearly articulate issues and opportunities and contextualize user requirements to improve data integrity and streamline processes. Utilizes or develops audit and reporting processes to investigate and detail the impact of projects and procedures, and monitors ongoing data integrity and quality. Provides feedback on the impact of system issues or improvements for data quality and delivery, and brings corrective strategies and recommendations to the Data Management Lead and other colleagues for project approval and development. Participates in analysis, documentation and testing of data for integration, exchange or migration projects; designs, administers, and executes test and requirement scenarios. Works with the Data Management Lead to document data access gates and provide issue and risk management proposals to ensure compliance to data security and privacy policies. Implements related business processes, develops logical data models, dimensional data models and schemas for the scope of a project or a component of a project. Develops data mapping specifications and extract-transform-load (ETL) designs. Working closely with the Data Architect and technical teams, identifies, analyzes, and implements new or reengineered business processes, based on improved data management or technical solutions, data integration strategies, or data acquisition techniques. Documents existing business processes and/or procedures for analysis. Develops process maps for new procedures. May develop and coordinate project plans including scope, methodology, timeline, and proposed budget requirements; may facilitate collaborative efforts with campus participants and serve as liaison between IT programming staff, users or contractors as required; monitors project progress and ensures completion as scheduled or successful maintenance handoff, providing written assessment of project status and results. Assists in the development of migration test-plan(s) and executes data migration testing. Provides results feedback as required. Independently designs information transformation processes. Designs and implements capture of metadata from technical processes such as software design and database management. Performs complex data management or resource research and studies for a variety of constituents and plans metadata acquisition for sets of unstructured data objects such as collections of images, documents or recordings. Maps process and data flow in the development of data integration and business process solutions to complete projects. Collaborates with AO Information Technology unit programmers in mapping data and the enhancement of data dictionaries and database translation tables to ensure clear use and understanding of data.
Required Qualifications
Ability to prepare data models unassisted. Familiarity with data model patterns in one or more common business or academic domains. Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion. Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements. Ability to represent relevant information in abstract models. Thorough knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards. Thorough knowledge of relevant rules and regulations. Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated service orientation skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems. Education
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits. This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $100,000.00 - $115,000.00.
