Position description

Dr. Camelia Hostinar in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Davis seeks to fill a full-time research coordinator position at the Junior Specialist level beginning July 1, 2024. The position will have duration of 1 year. The successful candidate will work on research projects investigating stress psychobiology.

The research assistant will have the opportunity to acquire and train in several important research and intellectual skills using a variety of psychological tools, as well as perform lab management duties.

Responsibilities/Opportunities

RESEARCH (65%)

* Recruiting and scheduling research participants by phone and email.
* Assisting with data collection with child participants and their parents (e.g., administering paper-and-pencil questionnaires, collecting saliva samples; taking height, weight, and hip/waist measurements; processing serum samples from whole blood collected by the phlebotomist). The position involves direct interaction with children and families.
* Maintaining human subject protocols and consent forms and communicating with the IRB.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE (25%)

* Providing training to undergraduate research assistants and volunteers.
* Purchasing laboratory supplies and maintaining a clean, well-organized laboratory environment.
* Maintaining laboratory equipment and performing regular checks (e.g., freezer, eyewash station).

UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (10%)

* Contributing to peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in the form of relevant literature review, data analysis, and scientific write-up. There will be opportunities to publish abstracts and present scientific results at local and national conferences.
Position qualifications

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* A college degree in the arts or sciences or a health-related field.
* Prior experience conducting psychological research with children and adolescents.
* Previous experience with data analysis and stress research.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and good writing skills.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Excel & Word, Google Calendar, Google Voicemail).

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

* Exposure to some analytical software such as SPSS or R.
* Experience with UC Davis Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols.
* Ability to conduct occasional weekend research sessions with participants.
