Responsibilities:

Incumbent serves as first point of contact for patients in the ambulatory clinics. Performs general clerical and reception dutes. Enters patient data to the registration system and verifies insurance and/or third party coverage. Schedules, confirms, and cancels patient appointments.   • Reviews patient's financial status to determine necessary payments and makes appropriate financial or payment arrangements. Counsels patients regarding insurance and eligibility 0%
  • Reviews cases to determine proper handling and follow-up 0%
  • Responds effectively to questions and concerns expressed by patients and other staff and resolves identified problems (registration, eligibility, billing or financial) in a timely manner 0%
  • Registers patients as appropriate based on type of admission, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the information 0%
  • Performs basic reception functions to ensure smooth office operations, including answering incoming calls, maintaining an accurage filing system, copying forms and documents, etc. 0%
  • Obtains demographic information from patients and enters into appropriate computer system 0%
  • Appropriately schedules, reschedules, cancels or confirms patient appointments in a timely manner to maximize scheduling for patient volume and in accordance with established authorizations 0%
  • Acts as Data Steward by following appropriate procedures regarding requests, access and disclosure of PHI in accordance with HIPAA regulations, and takes necessary precautions to prevent unauthorized access 0%
  • Accurately verifies medical coverage and determines patient eligibility in relation to established program, insurance, or contract standards 0%
  • Accurately prepares reports (volume and tracking) as needed or requested 0%

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Must be able to work weekends/holidays
  • Demonstrated experience using office equipment such as a printer, copier, fax, scanner
  • Demonstrated experience using multi-line telephone system
  • Demonstrated experience using a computer, including data entry and retrieval
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary
  • Ability to make simple calculations and perform simple math
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Ability to effectively read, write and speak English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must take and successfully pass a standardized assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance programs and/or government programs
  • Demonstrated experience working with TDS, Signature, IDX
  • Demonstrated experience working in registration, scheduling and/or authorization process
  • Demonstrated experience working in a hospital or medical office setting
  • Bilingual skill in Spanish or Vietnamese or Chinese
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese (certain clinics may require this qualification)
  • All final candidates will be required to successfully complete an FBI fingerprinting process to comply with the University's cash handling policy
